Board approves senior leadership positions

The Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees approved several senior leadership positions at its April 17 Board meeting. Among those named are:
Dr. Joe Rodriguez, Chief of Schools; Mary Brewster, Executive Director of Assessment and Accountability; Troy Byrne, Executive Director of Transformational Learning; Stephanie Williams, Executive Director of Teaching and Learning; and John Montelongo, Principal of Hightower High School.

FBISD's Child Nutrition Dept. honored as Best of Bunch

Congratulations to the FBISD Child Nutrition Department for being honored with the Best of the Bunch Award by the Texas Department of Agriculture. The department was recognized for its achievement in Commissioner Sid Miller's 2016 Local Products Challenge, for successfully incorporating local ingredients from Texas in at least three meal components.

An Inspirational Evening - 2017 Teachers of the Year!
A message to the community from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Charles Dupre
 
Before the weekend begins, I wanted to take a moment to brag about our outstanding teachers! Last night, I had the honor of attending Fort Bend ISD's annual Teacher of the Year banquet where we recognize the tireless dedication and relentless energy exhibited by some of the very best teachers in our District.

FBISD observes Public School Volunteer Week

April 17-21 is Public School Volunteer Week, dedicated to honoring all of the many business and community volunteers for their many contributions that help enrich student learning and success. Fort Bend ISD is honored to recognize the dedicated individuals who give generously of their time, talents and resources to ensure that our students succeed.
FBISD Board Vice President Burdine appointed to Texas School Safety Center Board
 
Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Jason Burdine, FBISD Board Vice President, to the Texas School Safety Center Board for a two-year term. The ten-member board reports to the Governor, the legislature, the State Board of Education and the Texas Education Agency regarding school safety and security, and advises the center on its function, budget and strategic planning initiatives.

2017 Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship Winners

Fort Bend ISD is proud to announce that nine high school students are the recipients of 2017 Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarships. They are among the first group of winners in the 62nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program, sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). More than 1,000 distinguished high school seniors have won corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards financed by approximately 200 corporations, company foundations and other business organizations.
Two Destination Imagination Teams advance to Globals

Fort Bend ISD congratulates the two Destination Imagination (DI) teams - Cornerstone Elementary's The Maximatics and Sienna Crossing Elementary's The Spectacular Creators - that have advanced to the 2017 Global Finals. They will join more than 8,000 of the top-scoring DI teams from around the world at the international event in May.
FBISD 2017 Tommy Tune Award Winner and Nominees

Fort Bend ISD is proud to announce the award winner and nominees named in the 2017 Tommy Tune Awards. Sponsored by Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS), the annual awards program recognizes and rewards excellence in the production of musical theatre by high school students and their teachers. This year, six FBISD theatre groups participated in the awards program - including those representing Austin, Bush, Clements, Dulles, Ridge Point and Travis High Schools.
District announces Student VOICES 2017-18 Cohort

Fort Bend ISD's Student Leadership Department has named the 2017-18 cohort for Student VOICES. The students represent a cross-section of the District's student population and provide a source of feedback to the administration and leadership on different topics and District initiatives. The students also plan and host the annual District-wide Diversity Conference.
Special Olympics Basketball team hosts exhibition game

The Fort Bend Falcons Special Olympics basketball team recently played its second-annual exhibition game against Fort Bend ISD Special Education teachers and staff. The game was held at Lake Olympia Middle School and was a way to celebrate another award-winning completion year at the 2017 SOTX Area 22 Basketball Competition.
FBISD to host Spring Signing Ceremony, May 5

To celebrate high school athletes who are making commitments to continue their education and athletic careers, Fort Bend ISD is hosting a Spring Signing Day celebration on May 5, beginning at 8:00 a.m., at Wheeler Field House (16403 Lexington Blvd., Sugar Land 77479).
