Be There: BBQ, Bluegrass, Braves    and Botanicals

It appears that we have a theme going on in the month of May! Everything the Senior Adults have planned happens to begin with the letter "B". I promise it was not intentional, but it gives me a creative opportunity to encourage you to "Be" there! From the Botanical Gardens in Gainesville to Braves baseball, to a BBQ lunch in the Park on Polk (complete with a bluegrass band) in between; you won't want to miss a bit of the fun!

First on the agenda is our trip to the Botanical Gardens in Gainesville.  http://atlantabg.org/visit/gainesville
We will depart at 10 am from the Polk Street lot on Thursday, May 11. The cost is $10 plus lunch at Longstreet CafĂ© in Gainesville prior to visiting the gardens. This is a Level 2 trip, and we will not return until approximately 4 pm. Click here to view their menu. http://longstreetcafe.com
Next up, on Wednesday, May 17, is our last Senior Adult Luncheon for this season. We will have a BBQ lunch in the Park Pavilion with the Bitsy Land Band to entertain us with some bluegrass favorites. The cost is $10, and why not bring a friend? You can learn more about the band at this link. www.bitsyland.com

Lastly, we have more than 50 folks heading to the ballpark to see the Atlanta Braves play the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday, May 24. The cost is $20 and we will depart from the Polk Street lot at 5:30 pm.  Be sure to RSVP for any of these events to Rev. Ethridge at ext. 7835.

Choral Evensong Service
Sunday, May 7

I was eating breakfast with some church members after the Easter Sunrise Service, and the topic of conversation was the demise of the Sunday evening worship service. If you are lamenting that we no longer gather on Sunday evenings for worship and prayer, then you may be happy to know that on Sunday, May 7, our chancel and youth choirs will combine to bring us a Choral Evensong Service. You may be wondering, "What is Evensong?" Evensong is a service in the Anglican Church, also known as Vespers or Evening Prayer, in which Bible readings and prayers are prescribed by the Book of Common Prayer. An Evensong Service is almost entirely sung, and has a rich and long tradition in the history of the Church like a Service of Lessons and Carols. The music of Ralph Vaughan Williams will be featured, plus three congregational hymns. The service is free and open to the public. Please contact Jim Bohart (ext. 7815) for more information.
