Apr. 28, 2017

Assalamu Alaikum

Dear Family & Friends of ICSC,

We are now less than one month away from the beginning of our holy month of Ramadan. The Islamic Center Religious Committee has announced that the first night of taraweeh prayers should take place on Friday, May 26, with the first day of fasting to begin on Saturday, May 27, insha'Allah. Please stay tuned for the announcement of our 2017 Ramadan program and commentators in the next few days.

As we prepare for Ramadan to begin, make sure to sign-up the kids for our Pre-Ramadan Qur'an Recitation Competition and purchase your tickets to our Pre-Ramadan Fundraising Dinner taking place on Saturday, May 20 at the Hilton Pasadena. More info can be found below

Until then, we hope you will join us at 6 p.m. for  Family Night at New Horizon School in Pasadena. This week, we will be having Movie Night - showing an outdoor screening of "Moana" for kids and parents while "Hidden Figures" shows inside for young adults.  And tomorrow, our high school youth group will be throwing a spiritual bonfire at Dockweiler Beach State Park. For more information, contact our Youth Coordinator, Nia Malika Dixon.

We look forward to seeing you this weekend!

In peace,
Islamic Center of Southern California

P.S. STAY INFORMED.  Please forward this newsletter to your friends so they can join our mailing list.

Earlier this month, the Islamic Center hosted its first "Singles Social Club" event for Muslim men and women ages 30 - 50 years old looking to get married. The gathering was small - 11 women and 10 men - and hosted by a husband and wife team at their private residence in West Los Angeles.

"The ice breaker games and small group venue were perfect"

After praying maghrib together, the group sat down to share a dinner. The meal offered an opportunity for conversations to begin naturally from the very beginning.  Many guests enjoyed the small-scale event, "other singles events are huge, with speeches and no opportunity to meet everyone there."

Once dinner was over, the festivities shifted to the living room where the group sat in a circle for ice breaker games - alternating man, woman, man, woman, etc... In the first game, each pair had 3 minutes to get to know each other before they switched. "The ice breaker games and small group venue were perfect," said one of the attendees. After taking a break for coffee and dessert, they conversed and played another game before ending the night's event. The night ended with more positive feedback from guests, "I loved the hosts and the warm, welcoming environment.

"Other singles events are huge, with speeches and no opportunity to meet everyone there."

There were three connections at the first mixer and insha'Allah this is just the beginning. Check back for more upcoming "Singes Social Club" events in the months to come. In July, the Center plans to host three more singles events for different age groups.

Prayer Times prayers
We are open for prayers five times a day, every day. The iqama (announcement for prayer) is ten minutes after the Call to Prayer (athan). You can find prayer times on our  website .

" So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me .
