Farmers Market season begins!
Farmers Market Season Begins!
The growing season is here and our farmers markets are beginning to open!
  • Canton - the market opens on Friday, May 12 and will be open on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00 to 2:00 at the village park
  • Potsdam - the market opens on Saturday, May 13 and will be open every Saturday from 9:00 to 2:00 at Ives Park

The markets in Gouverneur and Hammond open in June. And Massena opens in July. Watch for details in upcoming newsletters.

What might you find at a farmers market in May? The selection's not as great as later in the season, but asparagus, greens, herbs, lettuce, peas, plants, rhubarb, scallions, and spinach are all possible.

Remember that debit, credit, and SNAP EBT cards are welcome and GardenShare will again be doubling the value for SNAP customers.

Volunteers needed!  Do you love your farmers market and want to see it thrive and grow? We need your help to promote the market to customers and to support the market managers on market days. Go here or contact Rhonda to learn more.

2017 Local Food Guide

Congratulations to Robert Taillon who submitted the winning photo for the cover of the 2017 Local Food Guide.

Pictured are Josh Taillon and Alicia Cote, showing off some of their produce from Spiritwood Farm in Madrid. For the last two years, the farm provided some of the fresh food prepared and served at Jake's on the Water, where Josh is the chef.  Robert, Josh, and Alicia say they are looking forward to many more seasons to come!

Local Food Guides are at the printer and will be distributed in early June. Look for yours in the mail or call us at 315-261-8054 if you wish to receive one.
