Mapping Pathways for Financial Opportunity and Success

April 2017 Newsletter
Promoting a Savings Culture for Economic Mobility
Veronica Montoya filed her taxes with BSP. Upon entering our VITA site in Mountain View, she was introduced to our Financial Capability specialist who explained her saving options and encouraged her to join a community of individuals pledging to save their refund for the future. Upon filing her taxes, she received a return and chose to join BSP's "Savers Wall of Fame", a visual representation of goals and dreams to save for the future. She also purchased savings bonds for her two children.

This month, BSP celebrates its 3rd successful tax season and its commitment to boost financial well being among working families and individuals. With the support of CFEDUnited Way of Los Angeles, the Siemer Institute and the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, BSP integrated financial capability services and hired financial coaches in Los Angeles and Silicon Valley to provide free tax preparation and help individuals and families chart a pathway towards financial stability. BSP is proud to play a role in helping families like the Montoya family walk towards financial wellness. We are grateful for the support of United Way Bay Area, UW Los Angeles, UW San Diego, and UW Orange County during this tax season.
Expanding Financial Opportunities for Parent and Child
Eduardo Reyes is a student a UC Santa Cruz studying Computer Science. Eduardo learned about BSP's VITA program through his mom, who takes the Vocational English class at her work site. After filing his taxes with BSP for the second time, Eduardo decided to save part of his refund and enter in a raffle through Save Your Refund. As a result, Eduardo was one of the 2017 winners, receiving a prize of $100!

"It was great to hear about the saving options available at BSP...I'm extremely grateful for this program and excited to continue saving towards finishing my education."
-Eduardo Reyes

BSP is grateful for its collaboration with various partners that expand opportunities and empower low-wage workers and their children this tax season. Having the tools and knowledge to manage finances and plan ahead makes a world of difference for entire families.
