If you are finding it hard to locate and hire workers, the Maine Department of Labor (MDoL) reports that unemployment in Maine is "quite low at the moment," indicating that m
ost of the workforce is actually employed, resulting in relatively fewer people seeking jobs.
The MDoL says one way to attract workers is to post your jobs with them on their Maine JobLink website, which is intended to be used by all the people filing for unemployment insurance in Maine, as well as by other people seeking new jobs.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is taking place on
Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 10:00am to 2:00pm
at the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce located at 163 High Street.
The Hancock County Sheriff's Office is hosting their Drug Take-Back Day in collaboration with Ellsworth Police Department, Healthy Acadia and the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce, and community members are encouraged to bring in any unused, unwanted, or expired prescription drugs for this free, anonymous service.
The following police departments are hosting Drug Take-Back events from

According to Sheriff Scott Kane, "This drug take back will allow citizens to drop off any unwanted, unused, or outdated medications that they may have in their possession. The medications can be dropped off at participating locations, and they will be disposed of safely with no danger to the citizens or the environment.
For additional disposal opportunities, the Hancock County Sheriff's Office and the Bar Harbor, Bucksport, Ellsworth, Mount Desert, and Southwest Harbor Police Departments all have prescription drug drop boxes located in their lobbies. In addition, there is a new prescription drop box on the campus of Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, located in the lobby of the Sussman Medical Building. All boxes are accessible during regular business hours and some are accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Drop boxes cannot take needles, epinephrine pens, or other sharps.

What types of jobs do Hospice volunteers do? When and where is the training for volunteers
These and many other questions (including your questions!) will be answered.
Hospice Volunteers of Waldo County has been training volunteers to offer free, confidential, non-medical support and assistance to anyone with a life limiting disease or illness and their families since 1981.
Flic Shooter has been a hospice volunteer since 2001 and on the staff since 2003. She lives in Monroe.
This monthly series of talks at SSCL is in response to the growing interest in "Aging in Place" a widespread movement geared towards helping senior citizens stay in their homes as long as possible as they age. With the current growing number of elders, this movement has the potential to improve the quality of life for many seniors.

Cherie Galyean works at the Maine Community Foundation in Ellsworth, where she oversees its education initiatives. Since 2014 she has written The Scraped-Up Kid, a blog on the Bangor Daily News website, which encourages families to get outside and tracks her own adventures with her family. Cherie lives in Bar Harbor with her husband and two children.

This film lays out the many ways women are disadvantaged in the United States under the Constitution. Using facts, figures, interviews, colorful graphics, news footage and occasional humor, the audience is led through current challenges to wage parity, legal protections, maternity leave, ending violence and poverty. The argument is clear and compelling. It's provocative but avoids man-bashing as it makes the case for why men and women should be fighting to get the Equal Rights Amendment passed.
They invite you to join them for this FREE PUBLIC SCREENING at 6:30pm with reception at 5:30pm and Q & A after.

Bucksport Arts Festival returns in August

The 3rd Annual Bucksport Arts Festival will be returning to the waterfront this August with thanks to the generous support of Seaboard Federal Credit Union. As the primary sponsor in 2016, Seaboard FCU will continue their support for 2017 in recognition that the arts are part of a healthy, thriving community. As a member-owned cooperative, Seaboard FCU is a vital part of the community itself and strives to provide quality financial services to all members at fair and reasonable rates and terms. Supporting the Festival is yet another way for Seaboard FCU to support their members, business partners, and community.
Forty artists have recently been selected to participate this summer. These fine artists and craftspeople will be showcasing a diverse selection of good for all to enjoy, including: paintings, drawings, jewelry, pottery, sculpture, fiber, glass, and woodworking. Several familiar faces will be returning from previous years, and many new artists will also participating for the first time. All proceeds of the 2017 Festival will benefit Main Street Bucksport, our non-profit partner whose mission is to promote a vibrant downtown Bucksport by supporting existing businesses, attracting new businesses, and supporting cultural arts events.
The Festival is currently seeking food vendors to feed the crowds on Saturday, August 12th. Vendors of all kinds are encouraged to apply, although preference will be given to local businesses with artisanal quality food. Interested vendors should contact

IRS Seeks Applications for Information Reporting Program Advisory Committee
The Internal Revenue Service is requesting membership nominations for the Information Reporting Program Advisory Committee (IRPAC), a federal advisory committee that provides recommendations to the IRS on various tax administration issues.
Members are appointed to three-year terms, but terms are staggered so that approximately one-third of the committee membership changes each year. Nominations are currently being accepted for up to seven appointments that will begin in January 2018.
The deadline for submitting applications is May 21, 2017.
IRPAC members are drawn from diverse backgrounds. Members represent the taxpaying public, tax professional community, small and large businesses, colleges and universities, state tax administrations, banks, insurance companies, foreign financial institutions, and the software and payroll industries.
IRPAC presents a report to the IRS Commissioner at a public meeting each fall that includes recommendations to improve the information reporting program.
Anyone interested in becoming a member of IRPAC may self-nominate or be nominated by a professional organization. All nominees must complete an application.
