Rector's Reflections
Welcomed with Open Arms

Thomas is not the only one missing from the assembly the Sunday after Easter Sunday. We are not told why Thomas is missing, but we do know why plenty of other folks are absent from the assembly: vacations, traveling, spring break for the kids.
Thomas is criticized for doubting, but he asks for nothing more than the same experience of the risen Christ the rest of the disciples had. By the grace of God, Jesus returns a second time and offers his body as living proof to Thomas. In the presence of Jesus, Thomas discovers he did not need the proof he demanded. Thomas' story is our story. We are not always where we need to be. Sometimes we even find ourselves in places we should not be at all. But Jesus comes to us, seeking us out and giving us the gift of faith. Thomas is not criticized, he is not condemned. Instead Jesus loves Thomas back into a relationship and shows the disciples what the words "Peace be with you" mean when lived out.
The resurrection promise can be heard through Peter's powerful preaching in the reading from Acts as well. Jesus will triumph over death. Peter points to Jesus' death on the cross, but what of the little ways we die? The loss of relationships, the ending of friendships, the pain of being alone and left out, the despair of losing a job, the doubt that comes on the heels of a negative diagnosis. Jesus comes to bring a holy peace and resurrection into the world in these times as well. This Sunday is an opportunity to proclaim the power of the resurrection and the grace of God, who welcomes Thomas with open arms. [Sundays and Seasons, 2017]
Almighty and eternal God, the strength of those who believe and the hope of those who doubt, may we, who have not seen, have faith in you and receive the fullness of Christ's blessing, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. [1985 Book of Alternative Services of the Anglican Church of Canada p. 336]
Alleluia, Christ is risen!

Episcopal Church of NH Lay Leadership Institute 2017

Registration is now open for the 2017 Lay Leadership Institute (LLI). We are offering ten different seminars this year, more than ever before. The LLI will take place in the Rundlett Middle School in Concord on Saturday, May 6. As before, a continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Since each seminar is limited by room size to 30 persons, and seminar leaders may cancel a seminar with fewer than six registrants, it is vital that you signal your intention to attend by registering in advance.  Participants are asked to register for their first, second, and third choices. Registrants will receive confirmation of registration and seminar selection by email.
Information on the seminars may be found on our diocesan website: www.nhepiscopal.org/lay-leadership

Please email Deb in the office if you wish to register.

Bible Study
Join us as we move more deeply into God's Word. We will walk through Romans to bring contemporary application of Scripture to life. Discover how you can participate more fully in God's kingdom as we read Paul's letter to the Romans. We gather on Thursday afternoons 3:00-4:00 pm followed by a brief Eucharist in the Beck Memorial Library.

Good Friday Ecumenical Worship

In the above photo, The Rev.William Petersen, Father Robert F. Cole, & The Rev. Gina M. Finocchiaro read the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John 18:1-19:42

In the photo below, Elizabeth McCrae, Minister of Music at St. Katherine-Drexel, leads the combined choirs from St. Katherine, First Congregational, and All Saints churches in the hymn, We All Like Sheep composed by L.Larson.  The beautiful hymn is based on Isaiah 53.

The Great Vigil of Easter

photos taken on Saturday,  April 15, 2017

Rev. Bill Petersen began the service with the lighting of a fire in the church courtyard. The fire was used to light the Paschal Candle.

A small unlighted candle was given to each worshiper.  The candles were lit from the Paschal Candle, and the glow from those candles illuminated the Parish Hall

Holly Simons leads the worshippers in a lively version of the Song of Response, "Dem Bones."

After the Renewal of Baptismal Vows the assembly moved to the Narthex for the Epistle reading.

Worshippers attending The Great Vigil of Easter celebrated The Holy Eucharist in the Sanctuary.

The Alleluia, He is Risen Banner, which was made a few years ago by Louise Locke, is removed from a storage box by Max and Nia Jones. The banner had been stored in the box since the beginning of Lent.

Alleluia Banner removed from box and displayed on Baptismal Font.

Pat and Marge Morris

photo taken on Easter Sunday

Pat and Marge Morris moved to Wolfeboro in 2002, and joined All Saints that year.

Pat retired from the army as a Lt. Colonel, and is a past member of the Vestry.  He and Marge are both Assistant Treasurers and count, and deposit the offering each Sunday.  Pat regularly attends Men's Bible Study that is led by Art Slocum and meets each Thursday morning.  As a member of Caregivers Pat drives clients to medical appointments throughout northern New England.

Marge is a member of the choir, participates in the Outreach Luncheons, and works at Lord and Tailor.  Marge is also on the Board of Caregivers.

Pat stated with a chuckle and tongue in cheek that he writes about every third sermon for Pastor Bill.

Pat and Marge are faithful members of our church, and all of us benefit from their loyal ministry to our church.
