30+ YEARS FOR LOCAL 308 AT THE MAPLE SYRUP FESTIVAL

Each year, Indian Creek Nature Center holds a Maple Syrup Festival, "celebrating the sweet, syrupy harvest that the sugar maple trees provide each year at the Nature Center!" The event features a pancake and sausage breakfast that guests enjoy with real maple syrup. Manning the grills every year are members of Local 308 in Cedar Rapids, IA. Local 308 got involved in the event originally by building the griddles for the food in the '70s and have volunteered their time to cook every year since. They served about 1,200 guests this year!

MIKE'S EXPERIENCE AT THE APRIL JOURNEYMEN LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

NCSRCC has 177 new (1,922 total) Journeymen Leaders as of April 23, 2017. These 177 embers completed their training at the International Training Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sunday where they learned about their role in securing the future of the Union. Mike Higgins, Local 314, was one of those members. He shared his experience with us:

"My name is Mike Higgins and I have been a member of Local 314 since 2012. I recently was asked to attend the Journeymen Leadership Conference in Las Vegas. It was a real eye opener! I think we all understand our market share is down, but I didn't realize how far down. Fortunately this conference shows many ways we as members can improve this problem and our outlook for the future. As good as all the instruction was, the best part was hearing Mark Breslin as the closing speaker. He has a way of reaching out in ways every carpenter can understand. I would definitely recommend ALL carpenters go to this conference so we all take a proactive approach to securing our future."
