The Moraga Art Gallery presents "Impressions-Expressions," highlighting Lafayette resident K. de Groot's Asian-accented jewelry, enticing, light-infused paintings by Carol Tarzier, and a bounty of artistic gifts for the holidays. The exhibit, which also includes work by the gallery's thirteen member artists and several guest artists, runs now through January 6. The gallery is located in the Rheem Shopping Center, at 522 Center Street, Moraga. Through November, hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. Extended December hours are from 10:00 to 6:00 daily. Call for Entries for Lamorinda ShortDocs Film Fest
Entries will be accepted from now until January 14
Lamorinda Arts Council (LAC) will host their 3rd Annual ShortDocs Film Fest at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center on February 11, 2018 at 3pm. This documentary film festival provides local filmmakers an opportunity to create new work as well as showcase it at a community screening. Entries for the Lamorinda ShortDocs Film Fest will be accepted from now until January 14th. The competition is open to anyone five years of age or older who is living, working or attending school in Orinda, Lafayette or Moraga. Film submissions will be judged in one of four categories: elementary school, middle school, high school, and adult. Do You Like to Sing?
Contra Costa Children's Chorus, a non-profit community based organization for boys and girls 6-15, now in its 34th. year, is accepting new members for the fall semester. Besides singing and performing music of all genres, music theory skills are taught at every regular rehearsal. This emphasis helps to provide a unique choral music education experience that produces well-rounded young musicians and choral singers. Rehearsals are held weekly in Lafayette at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1035 Carol Lane. Placement interviews are being held during the month of January. Choristers are placed in levels that are age appropriate. No experience is needed for our first 3 levels. Lamorinda CERT Program: Re-Unification of School Children and Re-Population following a Large-Scale Evacuation

Have you ever wondered how law enforcement plans to bring families back into neighborhoods following a major fire? How about how we plan to re-unite families following a tragic event such as an Active Shooter on Campus? Over the last few years, we have seen significant efforts to understand the various phases of an emergency and how those phases can be managed better. Specifically, research has shown that communities who are rehearsed in the reunification and repopulation phases of Emergency Management more efficiently move into the recovery phase. During this program you'll learn how this will be done and CERT members will receive certification to provide assistance to our Lamorinda Agencies. Seeking Volunteers for Homeless Point In Time Count!
Health, Housing and Homeless Services Division Contra Costa Health Services is seeking volunteers to help with their annual Homeless Point in Time Count in late January. Volunteers will be trained on how to administer a short survey and then be stationed at specific community sites with other volunteers to conduct the surveys. This survey provides valuable information on the scope of homelessness, particularly around the number of unsheltered people on the streets and the progress being made to end homelessness. It is also used by local agencies to help plan services and programs appropriately, address strengths and gaps, increase public awareness, and attract resources to help end homelessness.
Volunteers are needed to help conduct surveys on Wednesday, January 24th and Thursday, January 25th. Volunteers who want to participate will need to attend a training the week of January 15th before being able to administer the survey, even if they've volunteered with the Point In Time count before. We will be in touch with volunteer training information as the event gets closer.

Help Save Homeless Lives Through Cold Weather Clothing Program
White Pony Express (WPE), headquartered in Pleasant Hill, has just launched its third Cold Weather Clothing Program (CWCP) for the upcoming winter. The program's focus is to help the homeless in Contra Costa County endure the cold and often wet winter.
WPE's ambitious program, being handled by its "Free General Store" (FGS), is to distribute at least 10,000 to the homeless articles for the 2017-18 winter, such as warm coats, pants, shirts, socks, hats, gloves, scarves, underwear, and boots.
WPE is primarily asking for monetary donations to help with purchases of clothing for WPE's Cold Weather Clothing Project. These can be sent to White Pony Express, 1966 Tice Valley Blvd., #101, Walnut Creek, CA 94595. Donations of coats, etc., are also being accepted, but they need to be new or like-new donations of cold weather clothing. This excludes stained, torn, or clothing that shows wear. Garments should be in a condition that might be given to a close family member. Donations of new or like-new clothing can be delivered to Suite 101, 3380 Vincent Road, Pleasant Hill, during hours of operation listed here.
Volunteers are also needed for WPE's Food Rescue program, which picks up 5,000 lb. of surplus fresh food (fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy/deli/dry goods, bread/pastries and eggs) every day and then delivers it to nonprofits that feed the hungry in our county-all free of charge. In just over 4 years, WPE has rescued more than 5,200,000 lb. of quality, nutritious food that would otherwise go to waste.
