AFTER ACTION REPORT
Chapter Members Deliver 180 Boxes of Christmas Dinners to  7th Marines' Families
Chapter members delivered 180 boxes of fully prepared Christmas turkey dinners to families of the 7th Marine Regiment and supporting units on December 29 for the tenth
successive year. The fully prepared dinners were provided by Jensen's Markets which has been the mainstay of our Chapter's Christmas dinner program since its inception.

Each box contains all the trimmings for eight full dinners.
A quick calculation of simple arithmetic will show that our program is providing the equivalent of 1440 meals.

This year members of the delivery team included  several spouses and family members.  Once again, as is year's past, Matt Zack, CEO of Jensen's markets drove the delivery truck from Palm Desert to the Marine Base at 29 Palms and assisted in unloading the truck.
Members who participated in making the delivery were Vince Mast, Dick Partee, George Stettler, Bob Shepard, Jim Irwin, Dorothee Irwin, Ken Brooks and
Quint Villanueva.
CHAPTER CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON
The Chapter Christmas luncheon, held on December
21 at the Classic Club, was well attended by members and their spouses and a few unaccompanied male members.

Pictured L to R: Vince Mast, Carol Lehman, Santa, Mayor Jan Harnik, and Yolanda Villenueva

We were honored to have among our guests Palm Desert Mayor Jan Harnik and Jensen's CEO Matt Zack.  Both Jan and Matt made an impromtu presentation lauding the work and accomplishments of our Chapter.  In turn President Vince Mast thanked Jan and Matt for their tremendous support over the years making it possible for our Chapter to accomplish its mission of supporting Marines, JROTC, Devil Pups and other Marine related projects.

Guests were surprised by the unannounced arrival of Santa Clause who entered with a hearty HO HO HO, gave a synopsis of his experiences with Japanese business executives who were not familiar with Santa and led the holiday celebrants in singing a  handful of traditional Christmas Carols.

This was Santa's third or fourth surprise visit to our annual Christmas luncheon and each year he seems to be a bit more jollier than the previous year.

TALES FROM THE TUN TAVERN

DID YOU KNOW...
The Mexican-American War played a critical role in defining the border between the United States and Mexico that remains in place today. In 1847, knowing that the capture of the Palacio Nacional would greatly disrupt the Mexican army, the Marines stormed the enemy fortress during the Battle of Chapultepec. After two days of battle, Marines gained control of the castle, better known as the "Halls of Montezuma," and were given the honor of raising the Stars and Stripes over the palace to mark their victory.
Upon returning home, the same Marines presented their flag to the commandant. Their victory at the "Halls of Montezuma" remains a part of Marine Corps tradition, immortalized in the Marines' Hymn.
