A NOTE FROM PASTOR RALL: THE GOOD SHEPHERD
The 4th Sunday of Easter is always known as Good Shepherd Sunday, so the Gospel readings for those Sundays is always focus on John 10, Jesus' discourse on the Good Shepherd.  Our text for this Sunday (John 10:1-10), centers on the contrast between Jesus, the Good Shepherd, and other teachers (or shepherds) who come only to steal and kill and destroy.
One problem of course with understanding Jesus' words about the Good Shepherd is that very few people today have much experience with sheep and shepherds.  It is a familiar metaphor in the Scriptures that goes all the way back to Psalm 23, which is not only well-known to Christians, but a favorite for many.  However, even the disciples, who had grown up in a culture where sheep and goats were a part of everyday life, "did not understand what He was saying to them".
Maybe the most important thing for us to understand about sheep (and shepherds) is that sheep are extremely vulnerable, weak, pretty much defenseless, and easily led astray.  If the Lord chose to compare us as His people to sheep, it is not a very flattering picture of how we respond to the many voices around us ... STEWARDSHIP
The Story of Laughing Bear Bakery
Each year, several thousand men and women are released from Missouri prisons after completing their court-ordered terms. Unfortunately, they face so many unique and overwhelming challenges that many are unable to start a new life. One of the major factors for recidivism is the inability to find gainful employment. Laughing Bear Bakery, a work skills reintegration program, offers ex-offenders paid employment opportunities immediately upon their release. These jobs provide income, stability, and marketable skills. Laughing Bear provides compensation greater than minimum wage so that employees are better able to support themselves while learning their trade and establishing an employment record. Laughing Bear has formed relationships within Missouri prisons that enable us to identify prospective ex-offenders prior to their release. When they enter the program, their chances of success are greatly increased.
♥ Kalen McAllister started the program in 2015 with 2 ex-offenders and in its first year, Laughing Bear Bakery has already "graduated" 3 bakers to full-time employment. Laughing Bear utilizes the facilities of a commercial kitchen business incubator housed in a St. Louis church.  Our high-quality, "from-scratch" bakery goods are sold through various channels around the St. Louis area.  Laughing Bear Bakery is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and all donations are tax deductible.  ♥ Laughing Bear Bakery is committed to producing the highest quality bakery goods. We test our recipes and use the best ingredients that we can find. Careful attention is paid to packaging and storage, label information, and prompt delivery. We do everything we can to make sure that each mouthful of our delicious products is satisfying enough to form a lasting impression and repeat sales. We know that we are succeeding at this commitment because of the wonderful comments we receive from our happy customers.  Powered by Squarespace  Voice:  314.961.7515  *  E-mail:
SUNDAY SCHOOL
Parent / Teacher Tips for week of May 7

Lesson 10 Bible Story - Jesus Appears to Thomas - John 20:19-31

In Sunday School we are learning about Jesus coming to one of His disciples who doubted His resurrection. We, like Thomas, doubt what we cannot see. Through His Spirit, God gives us eyes of faith that we might see Jesus in Word and Sacrament and believe in Him. Discuss with your family, "When is it hard to trust and believe in the promises of God? Who is the source of our faith?"
Questions you might ask children to help them share and consider what they learned:

*          Why didn't Thomas believe his friends?
*          Was it too good to be true in his mind?
*          What did Jesus say to Thomas?
*          What was Thomas' reaction?
*          How do we speak to those who doubt?  How can we show them Jesus?
Law:  I sin when I rely on human reason instead of God's Word and what it says about my Savior.
Gospel:  The Holy Spirit gives me eyes of faith to believe that Jesus died and rose for my salvation and fills my heart with peace.
