Open Door

Opportunity is described as an open door.  An opportunity can be an exciting adventure or a perilous journey.  In the Bible God tells people to go.  He sends people.  He opens doors for his followers.  The choice is always theirs to go.  The great heroes of the Bible went.  They went by faith.  They did not know what lay ahead. Sometimes their journey was perilous.  Sometimes they questioned the door God had opened. They went in faith because they trusted the one who opened the door.  They had faith in the one who sends.

Jesus comes to us.  He tells us he is the gate.  He describes the way to everlasting life as a narrow door.  John in his revelation describes Jesus as the key of David.  Jesus is the key that opens the way to everlasting life.  He is the key that opens the life of the church, and the believer to opportunities to serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

"To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:  These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open. I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name." (Revelation 3:7,8)

The door God opens can never be shut.  When God opens doors for us it is not because we are strong.  The task will often look to great for us.  The reason this is so is because what God places before us is impossible for us to accomplish on our own.  We walk through the doors God opens in Christ.  God opens the door.  He is our strength.

A devastating illness is an open door to grow and serve. A financial setback is an open door.  A difficult relationship is an open door.  A controversy is an open door.  A child is an open door for us to grow in Christ.  When we stand before open doors, we are to go with God.  We can follow his path.  We can trust his power.  The open door will lead to growth in our faith and our relationship to him.

There are other options when we face open doors.  We can ignore them.  Sometimes open doors lead to temporary hardship.  There are times when they lead to conflict.  These doors are not as appealing as the uncomplicated ways.  Jesus says the effortless way leads to destruction.  Yet, our human reason says the effortless, uncomplicated way is desirable.  God never promised us a life without challenges and struggles.  He does promise that he will walk the difficult way with us.  Not only does he promise this, but he confirms this promise in the person and work of His Son, Jesus Christ.

God opens doors.  During hardship and difficulty, we can be confident that we are never alone.  As we go through God's open doors he is with us.  When God opens doors, it is so we can be a blessing to others.  In blessing others, we are strengthened in our faith.  We will receive the goal of our faith.  The goal of our faith is the salvation of our souls.

Open doors are opportunities.  When we face difficulty and opposition, we can stop serving and sharing Christ.  Or we can press on confident of God's eternal presence and plan.  What doors has God opened for you to serve and share his love?

I would like to say "Thank You" to the following people for the help and for the food for all of the Lenten services, as well as the Easter breakfast. What a great team we all make....Thank you! Christine Fauss

Donations needed to help the Girls on the Run service project

The Broadmoor Elementary Girls on the Run Team is collecting items to fill backpacks for distribution to children when initially placed into the Foster Care system. A list of items they would like to collect can be found in the narthex along with a box for donations.  Thank you in advance for your help!

Save a Label and help us raise money for our youth group!

Please help us raise money for our youth group!

It's easy!

So far we only have 10 labels from the past months all together!   We just need you to save the labels of Best Choice products and we turn them for cash.  Make sure to save the UPC portion (proof of purchase) that says "Best Choice". Our youth group will earn $30 in cash for each bundle of 1,000 UPC's sent in.  The box in the narthex is to collect the labels.  So please bring in your labels and help us raise some funds!

Beware of the Flamingos

Due to the business of this month, we will not be holding any activities this month. L    We will be discussing, hopefully during Sunday school time, possibly some date/times in June/July for rescheduling our "Fishing/Kayaking with Jesus, Kickball /softball-youth against adult tournament, going swimming at Lake Miola & a picnic at a park with Frisbee golf.  This summer will be a time to get acquainted with each other and build some friendship ties!  We will also be doing again our fundraisers- LET THE FLOCKING SEASON BEGIN (SEASON 3: Terror of the Flying Flamingos; Coming soon to a lawn near you!) & car wash this summer!  So get ready youth!!!  We hope to make a new video for the flamingo flocking's this year and possibly the car wash during Sunday school time as well.

We have a lot of exciting prospects for the summer months ahead for the youth group.   We hope that you will join us and be a part of a fun exciting group that just likes to hang out together and have fun!  We would like to wish a " Happy Graduation " to all of our Senior youth moving on in their next big step - whatever that is and don't forget that God is there with you wherever you go!  It has been a pleasure getting to know you!

Congrats!
Gerry & Michelle Eickhoff

Meals On Wheels
Christ Our Savior helps our local Meals on Wheels program by sponsoring the annual Pie Auction.  The auction is scheduled to take place in early July this year.  We want our members and friends to know that they can make contributions at any time to help with this worthy project.  Meals on Wheels provides nutritious meals for senior citizens who need a little extra help.  If you would like to make a contribution to assist with the expenses of the annual Pie Auction, you may mail it in to the church or provide it in a separate envelope with your offering.  Checks should be made out to Christ Our Savior with a note that it is for Meals on Wheels and we will hold the funds for the Pie Auction committee.  If you would like to assist in another way, please contact Beth Ramsey at 316-727-1249 .  Thank you!

Updates from the Church Council
Nursery/Cry Room.  Video and Audio have been added to the church nursery/cry room near the church entrance.  This room can be used as needed by adults and children.  We want children to be a part of the worship service with their families, however, we also recognize that sometimes this is not possible and adults need a space to comfort or take care of the child's needs.  We hope that the video and audio will help you stay connected with the service should you need to use this room.

Community Center building  - The Community Center building is available for use by members and friends.   It can be scheduled by contacting the Church Office.  We only ask a few things in return for using the building:
  • Please clean up after your event by removing your trash (including bathroom waste baskets) and vacuuming the area that you used.  The trash may be placed in the church trash bin near the shed at the edge of the parking lot.
  • Check the thermostat to see that it is set appropriately for the season.  If you made adjustments to the temperature, please return the thermostat to the requested temperature listed on the note next to it.
  • Check the front door to be sure that it is locked.
  • Turn off all lights and the ceiling fans.
  • Secure both locks on the back door (door and deadbolt).
  • If there are any issues with plumbing, electrical or heat/ac please let the church office know as soon as possible.  Please email Rich Fauss about these issues:   [email protected].
We would like to avoid charging a cleaning deposit for those who use the space and ask for everyone's help in keeping the Community Center building clean, safe, comfortable and in working order.
