Library Resources Round the World
Latha math! That's "Good day!" or "Hello!" in Scottish Gaelic.
As my family is preparing for a trip to the Scottish Highlands, I've tapped in to a few library resources. The most interactive tool is the Mango Languages app I've added to my smart phone. Chapter by chapter, I've been listening to, reciting aloud, repeating and learning Scottish Gaelic. I can speed up a lesson or slow it down, and the app knows right where I left off when I return.
I've also checked out three travel books from different publishers, each with a different type of traveler in mind. Thanks to a grant from the Friends of the Shorewood Public Library, our travel collection has had an influx of 100 new books with more on the way. I look forward to trying out my Scottish Gaelic phrases while I visit the historical sites and wander the islands. Where will library resources take you?
Turas math dhut! ("Bon Voyage!")

BOOK CLUBS
Did you know that the library has two book clubs? The AM Book Club meets the third Thursday of every month at 11:00 a.m. and the PM Book Club meets the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m.
Each group selects different titles and provides a great opportunity to talk about books while meeting new friends.

A monthly update from the Friends of Shorewood Public Library
100 Years of Shorewood, 100+ Years with a Library!
Shorewood Public Library is one of the busiest libraries in Milwaukee County today. Ranked number one in number of visits, total circulation, circulation to non-residents and public computer use, the library is a bustling place. In addition, four out of five Shorewood residents have a library card.
In short, the Village of Shorewood values and uses its library. But has it always been this way? The library has a long tradition in Shorewood and has had many homes. To learn more about its history,
visit this month's blog post.
As we celebrate 100 years of the name Shorewood, we celebrate the even longer history of our library.
Join the Friends for lemonade on May 20 at the Village Center from 10 am to 2 pm and take advantage of free walking tours
of historic areas of Shorewood
.
If you are interested in serving on the Friends' board, becoming a member, donating books/media or volunteering for the library, please contact the Friends at: shwd.libraryfriends@gmail.com
