Cardinal's Corner  |  Edition 33  | April 27, 2017
Dear Parents,

At mass this morning, Fr. Adam spoke to the students about the subject of bullying.  He announced that Pope Francis requested that a group of confirmation students make a pledge that they would never bully anyone. Fr. Adam requested from our students, even though they are younger, to make that same pledge.

Pope Francis was quoted about the subject of bullying, “In your school, in your neighborhood, is there a girl or a boy who you mock or make fun of, because they have some defect, because they are fat, or because they are skinny, or for this or that? Think it over,” he said. “And do you like to embarrass them, and even hit them for this? Think it over. This is called bullying.”

After mass was over, I asked the students, “What is the number one rule at our school?” A quick response came from the crowd, “Keep your hands to yourself.”  Which let to my next statement, “Although our number one rule is to keep our hands to ourselves, sometimes words can be just as cruel.” Should we all not live by God’s number one rule, “Love one another as I have loved you?” If you truly love someone, would you ever intentionally try to hurt him or her physically or with words? Think about it.

I will leave these closing words from Pope Francis, “we need to eradicate all forms of cruelty in order to build a better world.” I could not agree more.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Drabek
