Service Update
January 4 - 5
Due to the cold, this week's services - the 3 hour meditation with Kirtan on Thursday, and the special service for Paramahansa Yogananda on Friday - will be held downstairs in the Fellowship Hall.

We are working to keep the temperatures in the Fellowship Hall comfortable for meditation, however, please dress warmly, and you may want to bring an extra cushion or blanket for your feet and legs as the floor can get cold.

Thank You,
Managing Council.
3 Hour Meditation with Kirtan Chanting: Thursday, January 4, 7:00pm to 10:00pm

"Sound or vibration is the most powerful force in the universe.  Music is a divine art, to be used not only for pleasure, but as a path to God-realization.  Vibrations resulting from devotional singing lead to attunement with the Cosmic Vibration or the Word.  Chants should be sung not once but many times, utilizing the cumulative power of repetition until the singer feels great bliss wafting through the radio of his heart.  When this joy is felt it is proof that God has answered the singer, and that his devotion has been properly tuned; the broadcasting of his ardor in chanting has been true and deep." Paramahansa Yogananda
Paramahansa Yogananda's Birthday Commemoration: Friday, January 5, 7:00pm to 9:00pm

The meditation will begin at 7:00 pm and the special service will begin at 8:00 pm.  Please bring a flower as a symbol of your devotion to God and the SRF Gurus, and a free-will donation in a sealed envelope.
Seva: Sunday, January 7

Please join us after Sunday Service for monthly Seva.  We take down the Christmas decorations and prepare the Center for the all day meditation on January 13.  Snacks will be available. All are welcome.
Paramahansa Yogananda All Day Commemorative Meditation: Saturday, January 13, 10:00am - 4:00pm

In 1993, Paramahansa Yogananda's centenary year, the tradition was established of celebrating his birthday by holding a six to eight hour meditation in addition to the traditional birthday commemoration service.

There will be an intermission from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm.  Please bring a fruit as a devotional offering symbolizing the devotee's reverence and devotion for the Guru.
"The Characteristic features of Indian culture have long been a search for ultimate verities and the concomitant disciple-guru relationship.
My own path led to a Christlike sage; his beautiful life was chiseled for the ages.  He was one of the great masters who are India's truest wealth.  Emerging in every generation, they have bulwarked their land against the fate of ancient Egypt and Babylonia.

The rishis taught that each human being has been created by God as a soul that will uniquely manifest some special attribute of the Infinite before resuming its Absolute Identity.  All men, endowed thus with a facet of Divine Individuality, are equally dear to God.

God is love; His plan for creation can be rooted only in love...Every saint who has penetrated to the core of Reality has testified that a divine universal plan exists and that it is beautiful and full of joy."
