GIRLS ON THE RUN

Sarah Giese, 2nd grade teacher, is one of our coaches for the Girls on the Run program.

This is her first year as a Girls on the Run Coach and she is enjoying every second of it. Girls in the program learn life skills through fun, engaging lessons that celebrate the joy of movement.  Over the course of the program, girls develop and improve competence, feel confidence in who they are, develop strength of character, respond to others and oneself with care and compassion, create positive connections with peers and adults, and make a meaningful contribution to community and society.

Girls on the Run provides scholarships to girls who may not be able to afford the registration fee for this program. Miss Giese has signed up to be a Solemate which is a fundraising program for GOTR. Solemates raise money for the Girls on the Run 5K race in order to help provide scholarships for girls in Houston who may not be able to afford the program. As of right now 74% of the girls in the program are there because of scholarships. Miss Giese is running in the GOTR 5K to help raise money for the scholarships given out to these girls.

Message from Miss Giese:
I think this program can be so beneficial to so many girls and would love to help provide that opportunity for as many girls as I can.
Any donation would be helpful! I really love the lessons this program teaches and would love to help as many girls as I can have an opportunity to be a part of it. I appreciate you taking the time to read this and hopeful donate

Counselor's Corner

Parenting is all about good balance between setting effective limits and love mixed with genuine empathy.  Watch this Love & Logic video with examples to learn more.

Were you aware that there are Love & Logic resources for blended families, grandparents, as well as on the topics of technology, defiance or homework?  Good news!  There are more resources than I'll ever have time to use.

DVDs, books, webinars, as well as live trainings around the country.  I know you need a good book this summer, so check out their resources here.
HCE's VERY OWN NINJA WARRIOR

Hunters Creek mom-of-four Lisa Eicher competed in the American Ninja Warrior Competition in San Antonio.
Lisa (pictured center with yellow hair) was joined by her friends and family, including husband Joey and children Archie, Ace, Radko and Sevy. The blue and yellow sported by Lisa and her cheering section was to raise awareness for Down Syndrome which is a cause near and dear to the Eicher family. Archie and Sevy were adopted from Bulgaria and have Down Syndrome.  Lisa's episode will air in June!
PTA President's Perspective

Our awesome Hands on Science Chairs did a great job leading our 5 th graders in a water purification experiment.  It was fun and they learned a lot!    Thanks to  Claire Johnson Brianna Cisarik and  Nan Chandler for all the time and effort they put into preparing for the experiment!

Last Friday, our amazing staff got to enjoy a yummy Staff Appreciation Luncheon hosted by the PTA.  As always, Carrye Krouse and Katrina Hudson did a great job organizing and serving the lunch.  Thank you both!

Don't forget...next Friday is a Holiday!

Enjoy your weekend!
