Marches and Rallies
The League of Women Voters is proud to be co-sponsors of the following marches this month. Please bring friends, family and local members to share the message of LWV and the issues we support.

March for Science, Saturday, April 22 in Chicago.  Meeting place is Southeast Side of Buckingham Fountain at 9:00 am. Krista Grimm, President of the League of Women Voters of the Lake Michigan Region and LWVIL Issues Committee Specialist is the point person for the gathering of local Leagues. Entry will be at Congress Parkway to Columbus. A rally will be held at 10 am at Columbus near Jackson, then the March will take off at 11 am. There will be a science expo at the end of the march route on the Museum Campus from noon-2pm.

The March for Science Chicago is a nonpartisan event with the following purposes:
  • To show support for the scientific community
  • To safeguard the scientific process and research funding
  • To publicly celebrate science
  • To encourage curiosity and exploration

Illinois Women March on Springfield, Tuesday, April 25 in Springfield, Illinois.  Meeting place is The Statehouse Inn, 101 East Adams Street. The rally begins at noon, so please assemble at 11:30 outside the Inn. LWVIL Board members, Erin Roeper and Hilary Denk will bring buttons and the LWVIL banner. Some LWVIL Board members are joining and we invite all nearby local Leagues to join us as well. We will provide advocacy information since a big component of this event is meeting with legislators.

The People's Climate March, April 29 in Chicago.  Meeting place is at the corner of Clark and Adams at 11:15 am.  Laura Kratz, LWVIL Issues Specialist, is the point person for this event. The group will move to Federal Plaza a block from the meeting point. The main event is on the Plaza, on the Dearborn side of the Federal Building, site of the Calder Flamingo sculpture.

Be seen. Be heard. The People's Climate March in Chicago is one of the thousands across the nation scheduled for the 100th day of the new Administration in Washington. We will gather to speak out against the systematic, rapid dismantling of environmental oversight and protections at the federal level and as the voices of our children and their children will face health, safety and financial burdens of unheard of levels if this dismantling continues.
