Region 2

March provided a break in the weather and we had a wonderful show in Burbank at Los Angeles Equestrian Center. Sponsored by Rancho California AHA and AHA San Joaquin Valley, we held the annual Spring Region 1 and 2 Concurrent Show and the Region 2 Sport Horse and Dressage Championships. A great time was held by all!

The Region 2 Youth have been busy practicing horse judging and hippology this month and planning with fundraising activities.

There are many first time participants this year in judging so the more experienced youth served as peer mentors and taught what they've learned.  This led up to their first competition.

Twenty youth from Region 2 competed in the horse judging contest on April 8 in the FFA Ag Field Day at Cal Poly Pomona.  The kids watched, judged, and placed five classes and then gave "reasons" (an oral presentation explaining their placings) on two of the classes. Their placings were scored as were their speeches.  This contest will count as one of the qualifiers for the final team that will compete at U.S. Nationals in Tulsa.

The first of two hippology contests will be held at the Region 2 Spring qualifier on May 7 in Santa Barbara.  The youth will test their general horse knowledge on all subjects ranging from colors, breeds, naming parts of the horse, to types of bits, conformation faults, and much more!  There are multiple categories and age groups in these contests and they are open for anyone to participate. We hope to have some Pony Club and 4-H kids participate and come see the Arabian horses too.

Region 2 Spring Qualifier - May 6 - 7 in Santa Barbara, CA - contact Nancy Goertzen at [email protected] or on the web at www.horsenumbers.com

On May 27 you are invited to join us at the Open House and Breeders Forum for all breeders and owners of Arabian, Half-Arabian and Anglo-Arabian Horses. This is an exchange between breeders and owners with the registration Commission. You will be able to ask questions, gather feedback and take suggestions regarding all aspects of registration. The Commission would like to hear directly from the breeders and owners that they represent. This  will be presented at The Sherman Ranch, 7500 Camino Tassajara Rd., Pleasanton, CA.  Sponsored by the AHA Registration Commission and The Sherman Family.  Everyone is invited to attend the open house, complimentary lunch and forum.  Farm and Foal Presentation at 10:30a.m. Lunch at 12:00 p.m.  Breeders Forum 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. You are welcome to bring a guest. RSVP to [email protected].

Three $1,000 Mary Anne Grimmell Memorial Scholarships are available, and one $1,000 Mark Larscheidt Memorial Scholarship is available in 2017. See Region 10's website for eligibility information and applications. Deadlines are May 1 and May 15, respectively.

Region 10 Youth Judging Contest Huge Success:

Region 10 welcomed 20 4H/FFA, AHA and Collegiate teams that included 75 contestants from WI, IA, and MN to the Region 10 Arabian Horse Association's Judging Contest earlier this month-that's only three teams fewer than U.S. National's judging contest.

Contestants judged both halter and performance classes, placed each horse, and orally defended placing by giving their reasons to an official judge. It was truly an educational activity for youth and college students that helps build life skills, and provided a great introduction to the Arabian horse!

Awards and cash prizes were distributed to teams and individuals in multiple categories, including our own Minnesota Half Arabian Horse Association that took home top honors in the Overall AHA Team competition, and Overall AHA Individual, Katie Treadwell.
The event would not have been possible without judging team coaches Rae Ann Bartz and Cindy Schneider, Hesten Park, Westridge Farms, and Conway Arabians for donating their time and facilities for judging activities in February, March, and April, various volunteers, and Judging Contest Coordinator Debbie Treadwell!

Check out the " Region 10 Arabian Horse Association 2017 Judging Contest" album on our Facebook page for more than 70 pictures of the event.

Region 14

Equine Affaire 2017 came and went with a bang this weekend in Columbus,
OH. Among all the equestrian festivities were quite a few celebrations of the
Arabian horse. Kentucky Arabian Riders and Breeders Society (KARABS) member,
as well as AHA Region 14 Director Duane Esser, of Esser Valley Arabians, led two clinics on Friday. KARABS members Sarah Lodwick and Stacey Burdick-Taul rode their horses in 'Hunter and English Pleasure; Establishing a Good Working Position in the Horse and Refining the Horse's Training.' Sarah Lodwick's horse Hucks Carrissima demonstrated 'Turn Out Expectations for Horse and rider in Hunter Pleasure Classes with KARABS president Cindy Ryan as a model demonstrating correct hunter riding apparel. The Arabian Horse Youth Association also had a booth at Equine Affaire 2017 and signed people up for the AHA Membership and were there to inform visitors on how they could register their Arabian horse. The Ohio Arabian All Breed Trail Riding Society (OAATS) also had a booth next door. Stacey and her Grand Prix Dressage horse Comandr-N-Chief+// also stood as one of the representative of the Arabian Breed for Equine Affaire 2017. Hundreds of kids and their parents stopped to visit Chief and many other Arabians graciously shared by their owner, some of whom were meeting an Arabian horse for the very first time. Stacey and Chief also rode in the breed demo on Saturday. It was evident to all that Chief is a true example of the beauty and grace of the Arabian horse. Mickey Newnam would like to Thank countless volunteers that make this event possible:
Abra Milenthal, La Don, Caitlyn, and Brian Donahoe, Debbie Glasener, Katie Lauer, Celeste Phares, Maureen Fehrs, Ellie Troutman, Susan Salladay, Patty DeMott, Kristin Puett, Valerie Boatman, Stacey Burdick-Taul, Judy Fitch, Bill Cameron, Jennifer Tucker, Monica Gaynor, and Tina Ponder and many more.

Thank you so much Mickie!
