OSPA Visits the Pacific University Career Fair
On Tuesday, May 9th, OSPA Board Member and Executive Director Alan Morasch participated in the Pacific University Career Fair at their Hillsboro Campus. Both confirmed that the meeting was well worth the time being there, and how exciting it was to be able to meet with Pacific students to discuss their upcoming entries into the PA profession.

THE OSPA's Government Affairs Committee (GAC) Schedule
With the Oregon Legislature's focus on the impending budget crisis, the OSPA GAC has experienced several successes in Salem in 2017
. An update of bills passed, and other actions blocked will be sent shortly.
The OSPA, and the critical role that PAs play in providing quality healthcare in Oregon is greatly appreciated in the Oregon Legislature. Members who have an interest in state government, or those who may have a personal connection to a House or Senate member are encouraged to get involved in the OSPA GAC.

In just a few days, several of our OSPA leaders will be heading to the AAPA Annual Meeting and the House of Delegates (HOD) Meeting. These are exciting times for PAs in Oregon and throughout the country. Several different issues will be discussed and debated. Among them is the Full Practice Authority and Responsibility (FPAR). PAs in Oregon were polled regarding their opinion on FPAR and its potential effect on your practices, and the patients you care for.

Donate to the PAC!
You don't have to be a member to support initiatives that will have an impact on our profession!
Donations are not charitable donations or deductions, but considered tax credits. Oregon's law provides a $50 credit to some individuals and a $100 credit for some couples. There are two ways to donate, thank you for your continued support.

It's obvious that volunteering for anything takes time and a bit of dedication to the cause. We encourage you to explore your time commitments and let us know if you might have time for the OSPA - The PA profession's professional society in Oregon. Several opportunities - large and small exist for your talents!

A Message From the AAPA's Task Force on FPAR
|
The Task Force believes AAPA should adopt policy to do four things:
* Emphasize our profession's continued commitment to team-based practice.
* Support the elimination of provisions in laws and regulations that require a PA to have and/or report a supervisory, collaborating or other specific relationship with a physician in order to practice.
* Advocate for the establishment of autonomous state boards, with a voting membership comprised of a majority PAs, to license, regulate, and discipline PAs.
* Ensure that PAs are eligible to be reimbursed directly by public and private insurance. FPAR is a straightforward concept: PAs should be responsible for what they do each day; PAs should regulate their own profession; and services provided by PAs should be covered by public and private insurance. All of this can and should occur within the construct of team practice.
