St. Michael's Academy
  :

I hope everyone enjoyed a nice week. It was a somewhat quiet week here at St. Michael's Academy, but the students were certain engaged both academically and artistically.

Our 5th grade students showcased their science experiments this week during the annual 5th grade science fair. Many thanks to all the parents who were able to attend. The students always enjoy showing all their hard work.

Our SMA Spirit Day is tentatively schedule for next Tuesday, weather permitting. Mother Nature has been throwing us a few curve balls recently so we hope that our annual volleyball game will be played. The faculty and staff are ready!

And lastly our Evening of Art and Music will be held next Thursday evening beginning with the music portion at 6 p.m. over at Holy Cross Church. Immediately following, the art exhibition will take place in our school cafeteria. Last year this new event received great accolades, so I'm sure you won't want to miss it this year!

We wish all of our mothers, and all those who play a nurturing role, a beautiful Mother's Day!  Enjoy a great weekend.

Peace,

Ann E. Dougal
Principal

From The Classroom of Miss Wuller - Grade 4

The Halls are Alive with the Sound of Music!

Since late January, Miss Vanessa Ford has been coming to St. Michael's Academy once a week to share her musical talent with the fourth graders.

Through her magical teaching method, the students have learned many songs already; they have accomplished this with no instrumental accompaniment and no written lyrics to read!  They can sing a rousing rendition of several patriotic melodies, then prayerfully sing Kumbaya Lord and Lord I Lift Your Name on High.

We will be performing our "playlist" on June 8th; first, for our Grandparents and the SMA student body, then in the evening for our families. This inspirational and entertaining concert will showcase the spirit and talent of our fourth graders.

You won't want to miss this event!

The Mass

Learning The Mass
Fr. Matthew Alcombright, pastor of Mary, Mother of Hope parish in Springfield has been visiting with the fifth grade once a month throughout the school year.
This past  Thursday, Fr. Matt celebrated a teaching Mass with the fifth grade, explaining why we do what we do during Mass and giving the students a chance to see and hear more closely what happens during Mass.
Fr. Matt is the director of the Deaf Ministry for the Diocese of Springfield, and spent much of his time with the students teaching them to sign our school song St. Michael We Stand, which they presented to Ms. Dougal  Thursday afternoon.

Science Fair

Grade 5 Science Fair

The 5th grade students did a fantastic job on their science experiments! If you attended, you were able to learn about their experiment question, hypothesis, testing variables, results and conclusions. You couldn't help but learn a few things!

Volcanoes in Springfield?

"Good things come to those who wait"... in the volcano world that is! If you feel the ground rumble in the coming weeks, it is just a few volcanoes erupting in Mr. Starzyk's Grade 7 Science class. The students have been busy building their own volcanoes using a variety of materials. Stay tuned to The Messenger for further eruption details!
