2017-18 WATERFOWL REGULATIONS APPROVED
The California Fish and Game Commission recently approved waterfowl regulations for the upcoming season, including lowering the pintail daily bag limit to one - a limit set at the federal level due to lower pintail breeding population counts last year. The only other significant change was raising the limit on white geese in the Colorado River Zone to 20 per day.
CWA testified at the commission's hearing, generally supporting the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's proposal, which provides for liberal seasons of up to 107 days and daily bag limits of 7 ducks total and up to 30 geese total in some zones.

CWA also supported an early opener - Oct. 7 - for the Northeastern Zone regular season, recognizing that, with the notable exception of the Lower Klamath and Tule Lake national wildlife refuges, 2017 water conditions will generally allow for early flood fall flood-up of wetlands.

The season will open Oct. 20 in the Colorado River Zone, where regulations have to match the zone on the Arizona side of the river, and Oct. 21 in the Balance of State, Southern San Joaquin Valley and Southern California zones.

NEW VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS OUR EDUCATION EFFORTS - PLEASE SHARE!
One of our main goals here at California Waterfowl is to spread our love of waterfowl, wetlands and hunting heritage to kids - the people who will be making decisions to protect these resources in the future.
The main vehicle for this goal is our education program, which teaches thousands of students each year throughout California. Check out this video that takes you into the classroom to see how we go about raising stewards of the wetlands.

CWA TRAINS THE NEW GENERATION OF CONSERVATIONISTS
Things have been busy at CWA's Grizzly Ranch! We recently hosted more than three dozen women for a Becoming an Outdoors-Woman fun shoot where people could get shooting and archery instruction or shoot the challenging sporting clays course, as well as learn hunting and game preparation skills. The following day, there was a "Hunting 101 for Adults" class, which added hunter education to the mix.

Both these events are part of CWA's efforts to support hunting and shooting sports, which in turn have a direct impact on conservation. Know anyone who wants to learn more about hunting or shooting?

Go to  www.calwaterfowl.org/calendar and search for camps and clinics. We've got lots going on!
