Call For Nominations For Parent Involvement Matters Award
The Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) is seeking nominations for its 2017 Parent Involvement Matters Award (PIMA). The award recognizes parents and guardians who have made significant contributions to public education that have led to improvements for HCPSS students, teachers, schools, programs and/or policies.

Created to highlight parents who have demonstrated significant involvement through volunteering, collaboration, and communication with school and system officials, the PIMA Award honors the involvement of parents in the educational process and the role they hold in student success. The HCPSS award models the Maryland Parent Involvement Matters Award, which was previously sponsored by the Maryland State Department of Education but discontinued in 2016.

Nominees must be parents or legal guardians of children attending HCPSS schools who have made an exemplary contribution in one or more areas of parent involvement: communication, volunteering, learning, community collaboration, or decision making. Nominees cannot be school system employees or contractors.

Three semifinalists will be selected. The winner and semifinalists will be announced and recognized at the June 22, 2017 Board of Education meeting.

Nominations include a nomination form, narrative statement describing contributions, and two letters of recommendation. Nomination forms and instructions are available  online.
The deadline for submitting nominations is Monday, May 15, 2017.
