Kidney disease no laughing matter- but there will be plenty of laughs at Stand Up for the Cure

Somewhere between Sri Lanka, Ottawa, Toronto and Boston, Dr. Lakshman Gunaratnam found a passion for nephrology, the study of kidneys. Now, that passion drives a philanthropic spirit that fills London's kidney community with hope....and laughter.

Listen Up: Register to be an organ donor

Recent statistics from Trillium Gift of Life Network suggest that 1.8 million Ontarians mistakenly believe they are registered donors.

Fast facts for your water cooler conversations this week:
  • Nearly 76% of those on the transplant wait list, are waiting for a kidney.
  • 46.5% of transplants are from living donors.
  • Median wait time for a deceased-donor kidney transplant is 4 years.
  • Canada has a Living Donor Paired Exchange Registry if you are interested in learning about anonymous donation.
