Motto/mantra/favorite quote?
Adaptability = Survival. If you can't adapt you're not going to make it.
What is the greatest challenge you have had to overcome in your life thus far? There was a short period of time, between December 2006 and March 2007 when I suddenly lost my job after 12 years. It led to us having to sell our dream house we built, and move to a new home.
During this period was also the same time I started having trouble with my vision, leading to my diagnosis of MS. My children were just one and two at the time.
It was very stressful for me and my family, but it's probably taught me how to roll with things the way I do now. Once you go through something like that, your priorities shift and your whole world changes.
Where is your favorite place to vacation? I feel like my dream vacation is still out there somewhere, but I really enjoy family vacations at Disney and the beach. My kids are great travelers and they enjoy everything, so they're fun no matter what.
What is your favorite hobby? I really enjoy crafts. It's relaxing and rewarding to have something cute to hang on the wall or give as a gift when you're finished. I used to love dancing, and was pretty good at it, too. I guess I still love dancing...there just isn't a good excuse for me to do it anymore!
What is the best book you have ever read? I loved
To Kill A Mockingbird. But then I read the sequel,
Go Set a Watchman, which was until recently undiscovered. And it ruined everything I loved about the first book. I wish I never read it! So now I guess I have to go with the Harry Potter series.
Are you involved with any charities or non-profits? The National MS Society - my husband, Kenny, is chairing the walk for Louisville again this year. The "city" concept we implemented last year went over extremely well, and the National board wants to replicate it regionally this year. Thus, we have spent numerous hours building fence corners, street signs, and holders that will help the society transform the area into a more community feel. It's a ton of work, but thankfully I have amazing coworkers who are willing to help!
Number one thing on your bucket list? I don't have a bucket list. per se. I might like to go to Venice some day - it looks amazing!
What would you do (for a career) if you weren't doing this? I would probably be making something cute and crafty and selling it.
If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be? I could maybe handle being President for a day. I couldn't mess it up that bad in one day, right?
What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13? Everything you think is important right now won't mean a thing in 10 or 20 years. Your parents really are smarter than you think.
How do you define success? My life, right now. I'm happy, I'm relatively healthy, my family is great, I have an awesome job and work with great people. I have no regrets; everything in my life that has happened to me has led me to the place I am right now, and I wouldn't change a thing.
