Blouin Pledges to Cut Spending While Protecting Services in Palm Beach
Incoming Town Manager Kirk Blouin told the Town Council Tuesday he'll begin his task by huddling with department heads to explain his "vision."
Blouin said his mission is to work with employees to find ways to maintain or improve town services while reducing the cost of government.

VIDEO: 2018 Town Caucus Shapes this Election Cycle
Two candidates will be in the race for a Town Council seat in the March 13 election: Lew Crampton and Harris S. Fried.
Mr. Crampton, a South End resident, chairman of the Citizens' Association of Palm Beach, and a director at the Palm Beach Civic Association and Mr. Fried, a mid-town resident, an attorney, and former chairman of the Code Enforcement Board, were both nominated Tuesday night to run for the Group 1 seat to be vacated by the retiring Richard Kleid.
South End resident James Sved dropped out of the race earlier in the day.
Councilwomen Margaret Zeidman and Bobbie Lindsay were nominated for new two-year terms in the Group 2 and Group 3 seats they hold, respectively with no opposition for their seats.

Palm Beach Board: Peer Review of Utilities Project Didn't Save Money
It appears an engineering firm's review of Palm Beach's master plan for burying all overhead utility lines won't yield much savings, and might even cost the town a little. Last year, the town hired Patterson & Dewar Engineers to do a "peer review" of the undergrounding master plan developed by consultant Kimley-Horn and Associates. The Palm Beach Civic Association paid half of the $100,000 tab.

Brightline Train Starts Saturday - Unveils Prices, Schedules
This morning Brightline said they will open trains to the public this Saturday, January 13. Round-trip fares starting at $20 for rides between its stations in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. During the week, the company plans to run 10 round-trip trains a day between the two cities. There will be nine round-trip trains on the weekends. Trains will depart as early as 6 a.m. and as late as 11 p.m.
