Global Economic Summit
On Wednesday, December 20 th , Cabrillo High School hosted the Global Economic Summit with over 150 Cabrillo and Long Beach Poly students participating, representing approximately 30 different countries. The event was organized by Poly and Cabrillo high school teachers Libby Huff and Jim Dowding.

The Global Economic Summit event is modeled after the International Economic Summit Institute at Boise State University. The event is a highly effective and motivational learning experience on globalization, international economics and the free enterprise system. It is hands-on and activity-based and teaches the significance and basic concepts of international economics, globalization, and what it takes to make highly interdependent nations competitive in today’s dynamic economic environment.
During the event, students created trade alliances, joined trading and banking sessions, and competed in a global issues debate. CaLL provided all participating judges. These industry professionals represented a wide range of careers, from CSULB professors to City of Long Beach employees to small business owners. Judges evaluated students on their table displays and costumes, and also acted as bankers and scorekeepers as students transitioned from activity to activity. Long Beach CaLL would like to thank all the judges, teachers, and student ambassadors for contributing to such a meaningful learning experience.
Don't Miss These!
Long Beach CaLL's Health Industry Council
Long Beach CaLL is pleased to report that it has convened its first Industry Council meeting. The Health Industry Council met on November 27 at Memorial Medical Center, hosted by Council member John Bishop, the hospital’s CEO. The meeting provided an opportunity for Council members to share workforce needs, skills gaps and other hiring and training challenges with educators. Input like this from industry professionals will allow educators to adapt their curriculum to reflect current industry needs. CaLL will continue to facilitate the process, which will ultimately lead to a highly qualified health industry workforce in Long Beach.
In addition to Mr. Bishop, other Council members include: Kelly Anderson-Conk, Administrator, Bel Vista Healthcare Center; Carolyn Caldwell, FACHE, President & CEO, St. Mary Medical Center; Kelly Colopy, Director, Department of Health & Human Services, City of Long Beach; Sherri Hollingsworth, Chief Human Resources Officer, Molina Healthcare; and Janae Oliver, Community Benefit Manager, Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center.
CaLL is grateful to these industry leaders for their support in making Long Beach students well-qualified for positions in our rapidly expanding healthcare sector. CaLL looks forward to bringing together educators and professionals from the manufacturing and engineering sectors when that industry council meets in Spring 2018.
