Advent Season

  
Students, faculty and staff gathered in the Astrodome on December 13 for a live nativity while Music Ministry sang Holy Darkness.
   
 
Drama Club Award Winners
Drama club members Samuel Pitre and Hannah Adams were awarded the Audience Viewers' Choice award for their performance i n You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Pitre received first place and Adams second for their roles. The audience voted for their favorite actor after each performance and the votes were tallied to show the winners.  
 

Mass


Mass was held December 8 on Feast of the Immaculate Conception with Rev. Andre' Melancon as celebrant and was sponsored by Cardinal Vanguard.

The EDW Key Club sponsored a blood drive on December 11 held in the student union.
  
 
Hall of Fame

 

































Edward Douglas White Catholic High School held its 2017 Hall of Fame induction ceremony December 10 in the EDW student union at noon to induct J.B. Falgoust. President Tim Robichaux is pictured presenting the award to Falgoust.  
 
The Hall of Fame recognizes and honors those who have exhibited outstanding Christian values in their contribution to their profession and in their religious, civic, business, or educational involvement.
 


Christmas Cheer



















Alisha Bergeron's 2nd hour Religion class had a Christmas theme on December 7.  Bergeron read Christmas books to her class and the CARES students sang Christmas songs.  Junior Brandon Legendre is pictured handing out candy canes.

Christmas Concert
 
 
Cardinal Music held its annual Christmas Concert on December 7 in the main gym. The program included performances by the Concert Band and Concert Choir.

E. D. White Catholic raised over $7,000 to provide gifts to 180 children for this year's Christmas program. EDW students, faculty and staff delivered the gifts to nine head start classes in Lafourche Parish on December 19.

The Alumni Association of Edward Douglas White Catholic High School has announced Dr. Troy P. LeBlanc '86 as the recipient of the 2017-2018 Alumnus of the Year Award.

The Alumnus of the Year Award is given to a graduate of Thibodaux College, Mount Carmel Academy, Thibodaux Central Catholic, or  
E. D. White Catholic, who exemplifies the charism of the Sisters of Mount Carmel and the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in his or her life and who has achieved success in the global community. 
 
LeBlanc will be honored at the Alumni Mass on Friday, February 2, and at an Alumnus of the Year luncheon that will follow at Envie Restaurant in Thibodaux.  Please contact Michelle Keife at mkeife@htdiocese.org if you wish to attend the luncheon.

 
 
Teacher Highlight

Greg Torres, a native of New Orleans, is in his 38th year of teaching, and is in his third year at E. D. White. Torres currently teaches Senior Religion and Fine Arts.

He received his B.F.A. in Music from Louisiana Tech University, a Master's in Music Education from the University of Oklahoma, and completed a year of Doctoral Study at the University of Southern Mississippi.
 
While attending the University of Oklahoma and the University of Southern Mississippi, Torres served as Assistant to the Director of University Bands. 

Before arriving at E. D. White, Torres taught band in the public schools of Corpus Christi, TX and Moore, OK, followed by seven years as Director of Bands at Central Lafourche High School. In 1990 he was appointed the Director of Bands at Nicholls State University where he remained until his retirement in 2015. Upon his retirement, he was offered an opportunity to join the faculty at E. D. White.
 
While originally hired as a teacher of Fine Arts, he has also taught senior religion for the last two years. Torres stated that he embraces the opportunity to teach morality to seniors at E. D. White and finds it rewarding to be a contributing part in shaping the lives of young adults as they continue to prepare for a future that includes recognizing learning, service to others, and a strong faith as the center of their lives.
