Cariappa Annaiah, CA, has his piece Canna Leaves featuerd in the exhibition "Triple 5," a small art, national juried show at River Oaks' Square Arts Center Alexeandria, LA, through February 10, 2018. Read more about the exhibition and his work on his website, www.cariappa.net/news. Cariappa is also featured in "Building Bridges--Portraits of Immigrants and Refugees," a touring photo-text exhibit. Bobby Baker, CA, was featured in the 2017-2018 Winter Issue of the prestigious art publication Still Point Arts Quarterly. The 6-page layout shows 13 of Bobby’s black and white “winter” pieces. Beatrice Dauge Kaufman, CA is showing works at Le Hangart, a contemprary art gallery, on Saint Denis in Montreal.

Chris Gill has a solo show, "The Natural Universe in Abstraction," which will be on view at the Galatea Fine Art from January 31st to February 25th with an opening on February 2nd from 6:00-8:00pm.

Suzanne Hodes, CM, published an art memoir entitled "Studio Days: A Memoir." You can access the ibook here, and the paperback version is availalbe at blurb.com or Amazon.

Susan Hollis, CA, has her pastel painting Dune Edges on display at Chatham Bars Inn as part of Gallery Antonia's Winter Art Series.

Lori Mehta was recently featured in the Boston Globe. The article, "My Instagram: Lori Mehta," focuses on how Mehta uses her Instagram account to bolster her art. You can read the Boston Globe article here.

Lila Melman's work, Rapidly, will be on view at Bryn Mawr College in the "Beyond Boundaries: Feminine Forms" exhibition. This exhibition explores the formal subversions of the "feminine" that bypass biological, aesthetics, and social boundaries. The exhibition will be on view through January 28, 2018.

Judith Monteferrante, CA, will hold a studio tour on February 10 - 11 through the Terravita Art League in Scottsdale, Arizona. Some of her photography is also featured in "Sparkle and Flesh," an exhibition on view from January 15 through February 9 at the Center for the Arts in Cave Creek, Arizona.

Ginny Nickerson was chosen as the December 2017 artist of the month for the Orpheum Theater Art Series at Gallery Antonia.

Tony Schwartz, CA, has a solo exhibition at the SoWa satellite of the Griffin Museum of Photography. His exhibtion, "Travels to China and Tibet," will be on view until February 2, 2018. Read more about the exhibition at griffinmuseum.org.

Kristin Stashenko became the co-chair of the New England Watercolor Society's Signature Members Show at the Guild of Boston Artists.

Ginny Zanger, CA, will be showing 2 paintings in a group exhibit, Landscape, at the NEWTV Gallery, 23 Needham St., Newton, MA through January 26th.

WORKSHOPS

 

Eli Cedrone, CA, will be hosting two workshops on February 3 and 4 in Bermuda titled "A Brush with Bermuda." Eli Cedrone will teach the fundamentals of painting outdoors, inspired by Bermuda. Eli will also hold an artist demonstration that includes instruction at the Lighthouse Art Center in Florida from February 23-25. Visit lighthousearts.org/workshops.html to learn more. On May 8 - 15, Eli Cedrone will also host a workshop called "A Brush with Portugal 2018." This painting workshop includes a visit to Portugal, where participants will learn important techniques in outdoor painting. The workshop costs $3,295. Anne Heywood, CA, held "The Winter Landscape with Pastels" workshop on January 13 at the South Shore Art Center in Cohasset, MA.

CALLS TO ARTISTS

January 20 deadline for the Copley Society Winter Members Show: In The Style Of, juried by Tom Kellaway, Editor of American Art Review

January 28 deadline for 2018 Biennial Members Exhibition at the Fuller Craft Museum, juried by Sadie Bliss, Executive Diretor of the Maine Crafts Association. Eligible artists must be members of the Fuller Craft Museum, and members may submit up to 3 entries in a variety of media including ceramics, glassware, furniture, textiles, basketry, woodturning, jewelry, painting, and photography. The exhibition runs from April 14 - October 7. Visit fullercraft.org for more information and to apply.

February 1, 2018 deadline for the 2018-2019 Fine Arts Work Center seven-month residency for the visual arts. The FAWC is located in Provincetown, Massachusetts, and the fellowship provides a living stipend and work space for seven months from October 1 through April 30. Apply online at fawc.org/apply.

The Copley Society of Art is now accepting applications for the 2018 Charles Family Foundation Fellowship Residency at the Cape Ann Museum, which runs from September 5, 2018 – October 3, 2018. The Copley Society of Art is now accepting applications for the 2018 Copley Society of Art Residency at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts. MiratecArts is planning a one-week plein air residency on Pico Island, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, for June 2018. Email [email protected] for more information. The Azores Birdwatching Arts Festival, which takes place annually in November, is accepting proposals that are due by April 1st. 

February 9 deadline for the juried exhibition, "Capturing Light," at the Roux & Cyr International Fine Art Gallery in Portland, Maine. The show will run from April 6 through April 2018, and will display original paintings in realism, ranging from traditional to impressionism. February 14, 2018 deadline for the Boston Biennial 5, a juried art contest in the categories of photography, painting/drawing, sculpture, installation, video, perfomance, mixed media/collage, and other. Apply online at the-biennial-project.com.

February 19 deadline for the Boston Center for the Arts 2018-2019 Visual Artist Residency. BCA's process-oriented residencies offer selected artists the opportunity to experiment with their craft, develop their focus or test new ideas, while also engaging in vital public dialogue from a home base in our Artist Studios Building in Boston's historic South End neighborhood. The Visual Art Residency is open to applicants whose work takes a broad range of forms, encouraging applicants with dance and movement-based practices, theatre and writing-based practices, and artists engaged in installation, sound, or other innovative media. A key element of any application will be the connection the artist is interested in exploring between the germination and development of a rich creative idea and its active life connecting with the community outside the artist's studio. March 31 deadline for the 36th Annual Codman Estate Fine Arts and Crafts Festival. This festival features more than 100 artisans, including painting, pottery, photography, jewelry, food wares, glass, fiber art, metalworking, woodworking, clothing, and more. After 2-3 rounds of jury selection, 120 artists will be invited to exhibit at the event, which takes place on September 8th. Visit zapplication.org to apply.

March 31 deadline for the 36th Annual Roseland Cottage fine Arts and Crafts Festival. This festival is one of the leading juried fine arts and crafts shows in New England, lasting 2 days from October 13 - 14. Visit zapplication.org for more information and to apply.

The Copley Society of Art is accepting proposals from artists who wish to have their art featured for a small exhibition on the back wall of the Lower Gallery. The intention is to make the wall available for artists who have not yet compiled a body of work necessary for a full Red Room exhibition or solo show in the Upper Gallery. Proposals will be considered at the regularly scheduled October and April meetings of the Art Committee, but may be submitted at any time. Pier 36, located in New York City, is taking applications for the fourth edition of the "Art on Paper" fair. The fair features 80 top galleries from around the world to present paper-based art. Visit thepaperfair.com for information and to apply.
