UUCW Annual Meeting - June 4, 2017
Bill Derr, President, Board of Management

The UUCW Annual Meeting is an important day for our congregation. This year's Annual Meeting will be right after church services on Sunday June 4, 2017. The Annual Meeting is when the members of the UUCW are able to vote on important issues for the next church year. Voting at the annual meeting is one of the benefits of being a member of the UUCW. Only individuals who have signed the book of UUCW Membership and have made a pledge of support to the UUCW this church year are eligible to vote. This pledge of support could be nonmonetary in certain rare instances. This June's meeting will include electing board members and officers, approving next year's budget and voting to extend the policy governance experiment. Voting at the annual meeting is one way that our congregation follows the UU Principle to respect " The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large."

FY 2018 Budget Discussion Round 2 - Sunday, May 28, 11:30 am - Meeting Room 1

Last Sunday we had a good discussion with many questions regarding the FY 2018 Budget. We will be having a second session this coming Sunday for anyone who missed this past Sunday's. Please join members of the Board in Meeting Room 1 after the service.

This year, the Board of Management is requesting $61,441 from investments to go towards the 2017/2018 operating budget.  This compares to a pre-approved amount of $30,750 (5% of the average principal), and the $44,500 withdrawal that was approved by the congregation for 2016/2017.  The primary reasons for the increased request are as follows:
  1. To bring staff salaries up to appropriate levels, particularly for the Director of Religious Education
  2. To reduce the fundraising budget to something more realistic, given this year's experience
  3. To hire a part time (8hr?) professional bookkeeper to manage a critical church function that has, in recent years, expanded in scope beyond that which is appropriate for a volunteer.
It is important to note that it has been a very good year for investments, and that income from investments so far this fiscal year (July 1, 2016 through April 25, 2017) have amounted to $65,353, more than is being requested.

2017 Summer Services Ministry Team Forming

Our series of 2017 Summer Sunday Services will begin on June 25 and run through September 3.  Services are at 10 am. This series of 11 services is typically lay-led and often followed by a roaming fellowship hour/lunch at a local restaurant.  Our Summer Services Ministry Team seeks Sunday Presenters, people to offer a Summer Service presentation on a topic of your own choosing; people to serve as Sunday Assistants who would work with the presenter of the week to set up the lounge space and to help present parts of the service as desired by the presenter, and Service Coordinators who would be responsible for opening and closing the building, taking attendance, submitting pew sheets and securing the offering for the day.  If you are interested in serving in any of these capacities, please
