Last Thursday, we celebrated the end of a wonderful school year at the Christian Learning Center by recognizing
60
Pre-K students in three different graduation ceremonies! Each student received a copy of their own Bible like the one we use in chapel each day.
We pray that these children continue to grow in their love of Jesus and keep Him in their hearts!
A special thank you goes out to Kathey Henley, Trudy Hayter, Linda Hewitt, Duane Pfluger, Vicki Rubsam, and Billy Rose who helped serve cake to all of our guests.
I told the family members at graduation that CLC students are some of the smartest kids around! This year we recognize Landry Rohde (pictured at bottom right), son of our Giraffes teacher, Mrs. Bonnie! Landry graduated in 2004 from the Pandas class and is Valedictorian of Lehman High School! We look forward to the great things our CLC students have in store for them in the future!

I would like to say a
BIG THANK YOU
to the congregation in both services this past Sunday for your support of the choir and praise band and all the nice compliments we heard. I also thank the choir and praise band for their joint effort in ministering in both services.
Thank you for your sacrifice of time to do this. I was blessed by the message of the songs and Aaron's message to the church. God is doing a great work in and through Hays Hills. Let's build and strengthen the bonds of unity and faith. God bless you all!
Thank you to Sandra Snowden, Katie Kimple, Harriet Johnson, Emma Cole, Barby Bowles, Jessica and David Ronson, Heather Adams, and Whitney Lawson for their generous help and commitment to serve and lead in Children's Choirs. I also want to thank Barbara Kay, Rebecca Norris, and Kathey Henley for their commitment and work with Breakaway this year. Thanks to all the kids and students for participating in all these groups. Thank you all so very much and I hope all of you can come back next year! We are blessed to have you serve and you are sincerely appreciated.
We will have the Symphonic Band in both services this Sunday on Memorial weekend performing a piece called "Patriotic Overture".
This will allow the Symphonic Band to take the full summer off. They will not perform on the 4th of July. In the 1st service they will also accompany the choir, along with the Praise Band, on a special music called
"Victor's Crown" and then, at the offertory, they will play a beautiful arrangement of
"The Doxology". I hope you are here this Sunday to hear their last performance until the fall.

Children's News
Children's Ministry is off to a great start in May! I want to thank all of the extra listeners we had come to our second annual AWANA Verse-a-Thon!
We had 45 listeners, 63 participants and to date have raised over $1000! If you pledged money, you can still pay via cash or check or online at

Thank you also to the amazing youth helpers that come in to assist in Children's Worship! These kids set a great example for our elementary kids and help me out a great deal with recognizing and encouraging participation.
I am looking for some volunteers for
Sunday mornings this summer. If you can sub as a K-5 Bible Life teacher during the
9:30 hour or as a helper in Children's Worship during the
10:45 hour, please let me know. I'd love to give our regular volunteers time off in the summer. All volunteers are given easy to follow curriculum and instruction.

Discipleship

Hays Hills Members - ALL OF YOU OUGHT to be teachers at some point! How can I say that? The Bible says it.
"For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food." Hebrews 5:12
This book of Hebrews is written to a whole church among whom were many immature and those slipping. They certainly were not all ready to be teachers when the letter was written, but the writer says they OUGHT to have been, given the amount of time they had been Christians and the teachings they had received.
Most believer-teachers won't teach a class. But at some point every single believer needs to teach someone the faith, by befriending a new believer and reading the Bible and helping him or her to understand, and praying with and for him or her. Do you see that one-on-one teaching role in the verse above? "...you need someone to teach you again..." (That pronoun is used about 80% of the time in the NT to refer a single person.)
Questions:
1)
How many years in a Bible Life class and studying the Bible do you need before you should share your base of knowledge with another? 10, 20, 30, 40, 60?
2)
How long did it take for Jesus to send His fumbling disciples out to teach and preach, and then shortly after that, the 72 other followers? (Hint: not very long! Possibly a year.)
We have a church of servants and we serve in so many ways which is to the glory of God and builds the church! (Eph. 4:16) BUT each should teach also. Is all the Bible teaching we have received only for our benefit to guide our lives? That's a start...only.
Discipleship that doesn't involve sharing with another-is discipleship missing a critical gene. It is discipleship walking but not progressing.
You may feel you're not qualified. Perhaps you aren't qualified right at this very moment if you are in a rut of sin or a time of spiritual confusion.
But you don't have to be what some call a "victorious Christian" before being a mentor! In fact, how could you be a "victorious Christian" if you aren't sharing your life with another to help them in Christ, according to the New Testament? (Dying to self in following Christ, leads to investing in others, which is a sign of Christ's victory in you.) It's a key sign that the Bible is really getting into you.

Where are we headed as a church? On Sunday, I had an opportunity to answer that question and lay before us two primary goals:
20% To Our Neighbors and the Nations
-
We believe the church exists not only to bring
life-changing hope to those who walk through our doors, but also those who are outside them. We believe it is our responsibility to make disciples of Jesus Christ in Buda, Kyle, South Austin, and to the ends of the earth. So in an effort to take the good news of Jesus to our neighbors
and to the nations, it is our goal to have 20% of our budget allocated to missions and evangelism. We're seeking to meet this goal by increasing the percentage of our budget allocated to missions and evangelism by 1% annually.
Because we believe we're responsible to take the good news of Jesus to our neighbors and the nations, we make a conscious effort to distinguish missions from evangelism. By distinguishing between the two we can better evaluate evangelism, "Are we reaching our neighbors?" and missions, "Are we reaching the nations?"
We define missions as reaching the unreached and unengaged with the gospel of Jesus Christ. With our missions funds we are seeking to take the good news of Jesus to peoples and places it has never been - namely, those people groups among whom 2% or less are evangelicals. The Church among these people groups needs outside assistance to fulfill the task of evangelism, and we believe God has blessed us with the resources to assist them.
"Thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else's foundation, but as it is written, 'Those who have never been told of him will see, and those who have never heard will understand.'" (
Romans 15:20-21)
Evangelism is the broader category of simply reaching the lost with the gospel of Jesus Christ. With our evangelism budget we fund a variety of ministries: from church plants to local pregnancy centers, training conferences to transitional housing for single moms.
Tell It to Two
-
We don't want to be a church that talks about evangelism; we want to be a church that
practices
evangelism. We know it's often intimidating to open our mouth and tell someone about Jesus. We're afraid they'll think we're awkward and judgmental. We're afraid it might create tension in our relationships, put distance between our family members, or put a halt to our career advancement. But we also know the Holy Spirit was given to make us bold in speaking of the good news of Jesus to those around us (Acts 4:13, 31).
As a result, it's our goal to create a culture within our church in which every member is not only praying for the salvation of two non-believers, but also for opportunities to share the gospel with them. We believe that as we're faithful to pray for the salvation of those around and for the chance to speak into their lives the truth about Jesus, we'll see the hope of Jesus enter into the lives of our neighbors, co-workers, family members, and friends. We want the world to know that though we have all sinned and deserve the punishment of death, God the Father sent God the Son, Jesus, to live the perfect life we should have lived and then die the death we deserve on the cross. On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead and has now ascended to heaven where he lives to hear our prayers and forgive our sins should we turn from sin and trust in Jesus alone to save us and give us eternal life.

James Holzapfel (Little man) is out of the hospital but still faces serious issues. He is one of only three spina bifada in the country with the rare condition in which his body produces many more kidney stones that normal (dozens in a day at times) and he deals with infections in the kidneys as well. Any medical intervention may work for a few days, but the condition finds a way around it soon.
