As the U.S. grapples with the topic of sexual harassment and assault, NPR News brings to light one of the highest rates of assault, against some of the most vulnerable people. A year-long NPR investigation has uncovered an epidemic of sexual assault against women and men with intellectual disabilities, as told by NPR's Joseph Shapiro in a seven-part series, 'Abused and Betrayed,' airing on the newsmagazines through next week. Each installment is archived and you can read about some of the other investigations Shapiro has done:


Welcome Quinton Chandler to StateImpact Oklahoma

The StateImpact Oklahoma team has now grown to four with the addition of reporter Quinton Chandler. After a stint working for public radio stations in Alaska, this is a return home for Quinton, who is a graduate of OSU. He'll cover various topics for StateImpact Oklahoma, specializing in criminal justice reporting. Listen for reports on the air Thursdays during the newsmagazines on KGOU.

Sunday Radio Matinee: Closer to Truth
Closer to Truth
For 16 seasons the public television series Closer To Truth has explored existential ideas from a foundation of diverse viewpoints and critical thinking. KGOU's Sunday Radio Matinee is airing a corresponding 5-part radio series this month asking some big questions about the cosmos, consciousness and meaning. In the Jan. 14 episode, the series discusses the origins of our universe. Tune in Sundays at 12 p.m. through Feb. 4 for this limited-run series.

 
SciFri Book Club Reads Mary Shelley's Frankenstein

The SciFri Book Club is reading a classic: Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, which was first unleashed 200 years ago. In this story of a creator abandoning his creation, which then wreaks havoc upon the world, many see ethical equivalents in science and technology today. Participate by reading the book (if you haven't), sign up for SciFri's FrankenNewsletter and think on some discussion questions listed on the SciFri website. Then tune in when Ira Flatow leads the discussion on Science Friday Feb. 9.


Ticket Giveaway ~ OU Dance: Young Choreographers' Showcase

A perennial favorite from the OU School of Dance, Young Choreographers' Showcase features new and innovative choreography  from the full spectrum of movement styles. We're giving away pairs of tickets for the Jan. 27 performance in historic Holmberg Hall on the OU campus.


Ticket Giveaways ~ Moscow Festival Ballet at Armstrong Auditorium

The Moscow Festival Ballet brings its celebration of the classics to Armstrong Auditorium for two great evenings. On Monday, Jan. 29, the company presents a combination of classical works in a Best of Russian Ballet Gala. Then on Tuesday, Jan. 30, they perform Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet. We'll draw for winners of pairs of tickets for each specific performance.
