Collision Test at Slaughterhouse Canyon, Bellevue

The Wood River High School Advanced Placement Physics classes along with Blaine County Bots will be conducting another collision experiment this spring.  The question being investigated this year will be: "Does decreasing collision time increase survivability for passengers?"   The AP Physics classes will give a public presentation before the test.  It will be at the Community Campus, in the Minnie Moore room, on May 24th at 11:00 a.m.  The students will present on survivability versus collision time and shear velocity required.  A question and answer time will follow.  The collision tests will take place in Slaughterhouse Canyon (Bellevue) on May 27th at 12:00 p.m. It is free to the public and transportation to the test site will be provided.

Here is a link to last year's project. A special thanks goes out to Blaine County Education Foundation, Sun Valley Auto Club and the City of Bellevue for making this test and presentation possible.
Food for the Future
Hemingway Elementary students collaborated with Wood River High School students to build two food computers that will grow food next year in both schools.  This is a great example of student-driven, cross-grade collaboration on a STEAM project.  Learn more and watch the video.
Wood River Middle School Students Take Learning Outdoors

21 Wood River Middle School 8th grade students completed a camping, rock climbing and hiking trip at the City of Rocks in southern Idaho.  All students learned rock climbing skills such as how to properly tie in to their harness, rock climbing communication cues, climbing techniques, and how to belay for one another. One student said, " The City of Rocks trip was amazing. I never knew I was capable of doing the things I did."  Read more. View more photos here.
Students Collaborate with Non-Profits to Create Art in Unexpected Places

This spring 27 art students from Wood River High School chose to artistically represent the missions of local nonprofits.  Their artwork will be donated to the respective nonprofit, and, in collaboration with Mt. Rides, will hang in the bus shelters throughout the valley, creating Art in Unexpected Places.  Nasby Carranza and Daniel Contreras are pictured above with their artwork installed at the bus stop near the Community Campus.   Look for the artwork at other valley bus stops soon! The project is part of Wow-students.  View more artwork here.

Students Travel and Learn

Wood River High School students Nathan Stouffer and Brock Olson traveled to Orlando, Florida to participate in the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference with teachers Chet Olson and Lisa Hoskins.  Brock Olson was awarded his Ambassador Torch Award.  The WRHS BPA chapter was awarded the "Membership Explosion" award for increasing membership this year by more than 30%.
