May is here and summer vacation is right around the corner. While schools are winding down, CASBHC continues to work for you. We had a fantastic 2017 conference, Protecting a Vulnerable Population, on May 5th. There were stimulating workshops, including an in-depth presentation from keynote speaker Dr. Niobe Way about adolescent boys and the crisis of connection. To see conference photos and view the presentations, check out the link below.
On April 26th, CASBHC & SBHC staff held a successful Advocacy Day at the State Capitol. It was a wonderful turn out, with nearly 100 attendees and 20 state legislators! You can view photos of the event below.
The national School Based Health Alliance has launched its  2016-2017 school based health center Census. To learn more and to take the survey, see information about the Census below.  Thank you for all the work you do for a healthy future for young people in Connecticut!

Open Application for SBIRT funding
In late May, the School Based Health Alliance will release a Request for Application (RFA) for SBIRT-in-Schools Phase II (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment). This is a national learning collaborative open to school-based health care (SBHC) providers and their sponsoring agencies. Funding is available for four SBHC sponsoring agencies that will choose up to three school-based health centers to receive training and support to implement SBIRT. In addition, there is financial support to assist with electronic health record modifications to allow for better documentation and reporting. The timeline for training and implementation is as follows:
  • Late May - RFA released
  • Late June - proposals due
  • Mid August - sites selected
  • Fall - onsite training
  • January-June 2018 - implementation
