United Methodists share MLK’s dream

The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial in Washington was dedicated by President Obama on Oct. 16, 2011. Photo by Maile Bradfield, United Methodist Communications.

The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was the face of the African-American civil rights movement throughout the 1960s until his assassination on April 4, 1968.
The United Methodist Church recognizes “ the right of individuals  to dissent when acting under the constraint of conscience and, after having exhausted all legal recourse, to resist or disobey laws that they deem to be unjust or that are discriminately enforced.” Therefore, many  United Methodists joined King  in his march toward equality, and in his wake, those United Methodist voices  continue to advocate  for justice for all, as their faith calls them to.
Though King's death was years or even decades before they were born, his vision has influenced countless young people who reflect and give gratitude for how the  struggles of previous generations  have benefited them and shaped their lives. People of all ages are grateful for King’s leadership and for those  United Methodists who walked with him .

Fulfill The Vision

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS:
WE NEED MORE MEMORIES!
Do you have a memory about our church? Of course you do.

First United Methodist is going to be 125 years old. We're celebrating in March. Much to do to get ready to make it a memorable and joyful occasion.

We are going to create a Memory Book. Since they are "memories" this has to come from people who have been or are associated with our church. It's going to be a "quilt" of memories. There are no wrong positive memories as they are yours. What is needed from you is a particular outstanding "something" to you that is about two paragraph in length. We can not do the whole "covering," but I think each of us have some memories that will awaken the "Ah, I remember" moments that will bring a smile and a bit of joy and will something many can treasure.

Send them to:  memorybook@fumcb.com by January 15, 2018.

Thank you so much for being a caring and participating person.

Blessings,

Evelyn Keller

Since the remodeling of the Conference Room to the Nursery was completed this year and the Conference Room has been added to the Parlor, the room has become very busy. Almost everyday there are meetings, small groups, and bible studies going on in there, sometimes scheduled back to back. It is also used for weddings and funerals. The kitchen in there needs to be remodeled for better use and storage. If you would like to donate to this project, please mark your check as Parlor Kitchen . If you have any questions please call Patti Gee at 941-981-5648.
