Immigration Resources for Educators: New Videos
Are you an educator who needs guidance on DPS' immigration procedures? Do you also need social and emotional supports to share with your team, families and kids? In collaboration with the Office of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) and the English Language Acquisition Department, the Office of the General Counsel and Department of Social Work and Psychological Services prepared two helpful videos that cover current immigration terms, issues, student rights, and social and emotional resources. Reminder: Take the Talent Management Survey and Win $500
On Monday, May 15, all teachers, specialized service providers and school leaders received a personal link to the end-of-year Talent Management survey. The survey asks for your important feedback on the LEAP (Leading Effective Academic Practice) growth and performance system, Teacher Leadership & Collaboration and other related topics. The survey will be open through May 26.  The nine schools (three small, three medium and three large) with the highest response rates will each receive $500 in school supplies. If you can't find your survey link, please contact [email protected]
Faculty Meeting Q&A
A feature focused on sharing your top questions from recent faculty meetings

Throughout the school year, Superintendent Tom Boasberg and Deputy Superintendent Susana Cordova visit every school to meet with teachers and leaders to hear what's going on in their schools and to answer questions. Last week, they wrapped up their visits for the school year meeting with educators from Newlon and Barnum Elementary Schools.

Q:
Denver voters approved bond and mill funding to build and improve our schools and support initiatives like the CareerConnect program. How can schools personalize their CareerConnect offerings? I am curious to better understand how this money is funneled into the schools to directly impact the programs we're able to offer and how our students will benefit.
A:
The DPS CareerConnect team and various internal and external stakeholders are currently engaged in a five-year plan development process that will involve input from various schools, DPS departments, businesses, colleges, students, parents and other stakeholders.

Some of the mill levy funding approved by voters will sustain
CareerConnect programs currently in schools that were previously funded by grants. The expansion of new programs funded by the recent mill levy will be determined during phase two of the planning process taking place between August and October.

Schools will be able to apply for expansion resources through a process that will factor in need, readiness and vision. The funding is anticipated to be distributed to schools in the middle of the coming school year.

One of the five goals in the district's strategic plan -- the Denver Plan 2020 -- is to ensure our students graduate ready for college and career through rigorous coursework and high standards. DPS CareerConnect is a significant component of this district priority, as it has shown to be an effective strategy for equipping graduates with high-demand skills and leads to opportunities for continued education and careers in Colorado's highest-growth, highest-opportunity industries. This program impacts 18,000 students in our district and offers students hands-on, experiential-learning opportunities through partnerships with more than 270 companies in Denver.

There is an opportunity to be one of the stakeholders represented during the five-year planning process. If you're interested, please contact the director of DPS CareerConnect, Joe Saboe.

Please schedule a time to meet with your school leader or instructional leadership team as soon as possible.
