Attention Residential and Commercial Alarm Holders

The Derry Township Police Department offers an online service for residential and commercial alarm holders to register their contact information with the department in the event of a burglar or fire alarm activation, or other emergency affecting their home or business. The registration is available at no cost through the police department's website.

The information is restricted for public safety use only and is not released to third parties or other non-public safety entities. Contact the Police Department Records Section at 717-533-5498 for more information.
Informational Meeting for Fall 2018 Kindergarten to Be Held January 23 
Register now for an information meeting hosted by Derry Township School District for township residents who are parents/guardians of children who will be five years old before September 1, 2018 and are planning to attend kindergarten in DTSD this coming fall.

The meeting will be held January 23, 2018 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Hershey Early Childhood Center, 450 rear Homestead Road. Topics to be covered will include the transition to a full day kindergarten program, the enrollment process, food services, and transportation.

Sunday, January 14, 2:00 p.m.

The Hershey Public Library will be showing  Star Trek (Rated PG-13, 2009) and demonstrating Artemis , a new Star Trek simulation game.

Come in costume to receive swag! This event is suitable for children ages 8 and up, but everyone is welcome. Please note that children under the age of 12 must have a supervising adult in the building. No registration is required.

New Parent and Child Interactive Program
to Be Offered on Saturdays

Are programs held during the week at the library too hard to get to?

The library is offering a new program for preschoolers and parents on the second Saturday of the month at 1:30 p.m. The program is part of a literacy-based strategy to encourage young children to read, talk, play, sing, and write.

Each program will have a featured theme and begin with a related read-aloud story followed by an exploration of the theme through blocks, learning centers, play areas, and experiments to promote active engagement of parents with their children. Children will have an opportunity to take related books home after the program.

The first program will be held on Saturday, January 13, at 1:30 p.m., 701 Cocoa Avenue.

Free Community Skate to Benefit Cocoa Packs
Hershey Figure Skating Club invites the community to celebrate National Skating Month with a free Community Skate at the Historic Hersheypark Arena, Monday, January 15 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Admission is free and skate rental is $2.50. Hershey Bear's mascot Coco will be joining in on the fun! 
Attendees are asked to bring food donations for the nonprofit Cocoa Packs program. This program benefits over 600 Derry Township students who are “food insecure” by providing food for weekends and when school is not in session. Items needed include a range of single-serve foods such as macaroni and cheese cups, snack bars, individual cereal boxes, tuna, and juice boxes. Invite a friend and join us for games, music, and door prizes.  A free group Learn-to-Skate lesson will be held from 6:00-6:30 p.m.

Parking is free. Enter the Arena at the right side doors. Boy Scout Troop 65 will be helping at the donation collection table inside the door. 
HHS Poetry Out Loud & Burns Supper
Hershey High School invites the community to attend its 9th Annual Poetry Out Loud Competition & Burns Night Supper on Thursday, January 18 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Hershey Theatre, 15 E. Caracas Avenue. The event is free of charge and open to all.

Poetry Out Loud is a national competition that encourages students to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history.
Hershey Area Art Association Presents Nature's Art Show and Sale at Hershey Gardens

Come to the Hershey Gardens and see beautiful works of art created by members of the Hershey Area Art Association. The exhibit will be on display in the Educational and Horticultural wing of the Milton and Catherine Hershey Conservatory and is included in the price of admission. Hershey Area Playhouse Theatre Academy Classes Begin in January

Hershey Area Playhouse Theatre Academy will offer children and youth and adult acting classes that will build skills using your imagination.

Children and youth classes begin Saturday, January 20 and run eight weeks through March 10.
K-3 meet 9:00 - 10:30 a.m.
Grades 4-6 meet 10:30 a.m. -12:00 p.m.
Grades 7-12 meet 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Adult acting classes will be held January 27, February 3, and February 10 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
"In His Own Words” Pays Tribute to 
A Band of Brothers

Join the Historical Society on Thursday, January 18, 2018, as it hosts a screening of the documentary, “ In His Own Words,” at the Allen Theatre, Annville.

This rarely seen documentary chronicles the story beyond “ Band of Brothers,” the Steven Spielberg produced HBO mini-series, featuring Major Dick Winters. Using vignettes from the mini-series, the film demonstrates Major Winters’ wartime leadership. Through his commentary and insight in this epic story, Major Winters provides an intimate portrait of his personal turmoil and tactical decision-making process.

Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and the film will begin at 6:30 p.m. Call 717-520-0748, or visit www.hersheyhistory.org to purchase tickets. There is no guarantee that tickets will be available at the door. Proceeds benefit the HDTHS Museum and veterans’ exhibit at the Society.

Admission is $5 for members, veterans, students and children, and $10 for non-members.
Hershey Area Playhouse Announces Auditions for Italian American Reconciliation

Italian American Reconciliation , a comic look at life and love, will usher in spring at the Hershey Area Playhouse. Dubbed "a fanciful, lighthearted and zestfully comic exploration of male and female relationships", this award-winning play follows the story of Huey Maximilian Bonfigliano. 
Characters to be casted are aged 30's - 40's. Aunt May is in her 50's. Auditions will be held Monday, February 12 and Tuesday, February 13 at the Playhouse from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Please come with a prepared monologue.
Skating Into History 8th Annual Skate Party

The Hershey-Derry Township Historical Society's 8th Annual Ice Skating Party will be held Friday, February 9 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Historic Hersheypark Arena.
The Hersheypark Arena celebrates its 80th anniversary this season.

Come and skate with Coco and enjoy sweet treats. Local historian Bob Shaffer, affectionately known as a "Rink Rat," will host a lecture on how the arena ice is made and how the Zamboni is used to create an ideal ice-skating surface. Guests can also participate in self-guided tours of the "Old Barn".

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $5 at the Historical Society, or at www.hersheyhistory.org, or for $7 at the door. The ticket price includes skate rental. Children under five skate for free. There is no charge for parking.
