Milling and paving begins on Walker Road
Walker Road, between 174th and Schendel avenues, will have lane closures from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m today, May 24,  through Friday, May 26.
Flaggers will direct traffic during the closures. Travelers should expect delays or use alternate routes. Crews will be milling, grinding away part of the old road surface in preparation for paving. The milled road will be rough until paving is completed. Motorcyclists and bicyclists should use caution. The speed limit is reduced to 35 mph through the work zone. Paving is expected to take place June 1-9.
The work is part of the Walker Road Phase 1 improvement project, which includes widening Walker Road between 173rd and Schendel avenues to five lanes with continuous bicycle and pedestrian facilities, improvements to storm drainage and street lighting.
The $5.8 million Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program ( MSTIP) project is the first in a series of improvement projects including 158th Avenue, Jenkins Road and three phases of Walker Road.

LUT receives WTS award
The Department of Land Use & Transportation was presented with the Employer of the Year Award by the WTS Portland Chapter at the 2017 Awards Dinner on May 23.
The award honors an organization for recruiting, retaining and advancing women in transportation and related fields. The award application was submitted by employees who wrote, "All too often, women in transportation-focused organizations are limited to administrative positions. That is not true of LUT. Women have leadership opportunities and are encouraged to take advantage of them."
NOTE: This information is provided here as a courtesy only. Neighborhood meetings are required before developers su bmit certain land use applications to the County (for areas outside cities). These meetings provide a forum for the developer, affected CPO (Community Participation Organization) and nearby property owners to discuss the proposal informally. County staff do not schedule or attend these meetings.
