A Note from Mrs. Ryan    1/10/18

Dear Parents,

We are currently focused on the logistics of the move back to our home campus and the celebration of this momentous occasion.

Last night I met with our Parent Association officers. Along with their work on the Crab Feed they have also taken on the project of creating a festive and memorable celebration for our return to 4300 which is slated for Monday, January 22nd.  Senator Mike McGuire's office has contacted me about providing donuts for the students and bringing first responders to our celebration which will begin at 8:10 AM on January 22nd .  I will have lots more information for you in next week's newsletter.

The administrations of St. Rose and Cardinal Newman meet weekly with diocesan officials who have provided invaluable assistance to our two schools. One topic of conversation has been about re-working the school day start and dismissal times to optimize learning and help with the traffic situation of drop-off and pick-up for both schools. I have wanted to increase the academic learning time for our students for a number of years. I am happy to announce that St. Rose will be able to start at 8:10 AM every morning and Cardinal Newman will not be starting until 8:30 AM. This extra ten minutes of optimal learning time will pay off in the academic success of our students. Beginning Monday, January 22nd, St. Rose students will start their school day at 8:10 AM. I am hopeful that this change will not be difficult for our families since many of you have already had to adjust for the extra traffic and time it takes to get to the parish campus.

There is great excitement surrounding our return home. The classrooms look spectacular and there are no visible signs of the fire left anywhere on our campus. During this refurbishment we have been able to improve many aspects of our school facilities. Next week Kathleen Aymar and I will be talking with the students about this, while also preparing them for the fact everything will not be complete by January 22nd. The playground will be installed during our first week back and the covered eating area will not be ready right away. I will also let them know that some things will look different.  The outer walls of the Second Grade and Kindergarten classrooms have been demolished in preparation for reconstruction and there is empty space where our preschool once stood.  Although there has been significant progress made in clearing the neighborhoods around our campus, remnants of the fire's destruction are still evident on Old Redwood Highway.

Our students have already demonstrated remarkable resiliency and I am certain that they will continue to do so.  However, I am asking your help to prepare your children for what they will see. I know many of them have not been to the campus at all since we left it on October 6th and some may have seen very little of the fire's devastation.  Please initiate a conversation with your  child about this subject to help ensure that January 22nd  is a positive experience for them.

There are only six more school days until we are Home, Sweet Home!

Sincerely,
Kathy Ryan
School Principal

HOT LUNCH CREDITS due to Fire
With the hot lunch program beginning when we return to campus, the St. Rose Finance Committee has determined the best way to move forward to reinstate the program is to give our families credit on their tuition accounts for lunches that were paid for but not served due to the fire. Each family who paid for hot lunches in Oct/Nov (pre-fire) will be receiving a credit on your February SMART Tuition account or a refund check from the school depending upon how your tuition is paid. All accounts will begin with a zero balance. Account statements will be ready and sent home next week with details of your credit.
Brenda Hassur, our Hot Lunch provider, will be accepting new hot lunch orders for February with payments resuming the same manner as before. February Hot Lunch orders must have payments attached. Thank you for your patience during this difficult time.
