Happy New Year!
Food Trends for 2018
1. Exotic flavors
Middle Eastern-inspired food is going to be a big hit in 2018, and spices such as turmeric, harissa, cardamom, and za'atar will take front row seats.
2. Plant-based diets-which has been trending for years will see a jump in popularity.
3. Plant-based technology scientifically manipulated foods will be trending this year.
4. Root to stem eating - Food waste is (hopefully) on the decline, and in the effort to continue this progress; nose-to-tail butchery and the vegetable equivalent (using the entire product, including the stems and leaves) are on the rise. This is due to unique recipes, foods such as pickled watermelon rinds and broccoli-stem slaw.
5. Floral flavors - Flowers are leaving the garden. This year, lavender lattes, rose-flavored everything, bright pink hibiscus teas and elderflower cocktails are going to be a big hit.
6. Food transparency- GMO free products will appear on more products throughout 2018.
7. Non-traditional super foods
Some new "super foods" may include nut oils, maqui berries, chaga mushrooms and tiger nuts, so if you see these around, give them a try.
8. Portable protein such as flavored, seasoned packets, single serve tuna and cheeses.
9. Bubbly beverages, basically bubbly flavored waters which are low calorie and flavorful.
10. Increase in online grocery shopping- simple idea- for direct home delivery.

Pumpkin Seeds
Hazelnuts
Cranberries
Whole Raw Almonds
Organic Cereal
Dark Chocolate
Directions:
1. Add the ingredients you would like for your trail mix into a large bowl
2. Gently toss the ingredients to mix things up

Keep serving size to a quarter-cup or less. It is delicious and healthy snack but it can be caloric so don't let it sneak into the "danger food" territory.

Welcome to the New Year, 2018!
Here are a couple of tips you can use in order to make the most out of the New Year.
1. Set realistic and reachable New Year Resolutions
- If your goal is to get more sleep, don't set a goal of 13 hours of sleep per night when realistically you can only get 8 hours. Many people actually limit their sleep due to cell phones, computers, and other electronics. You should try to remove all electronics from your room at night time, so you are not tempted to watch TV shows, play games, or talk with your friends.
2. Trust the Process
- If your goal is to lose weight, do not expect to lose the weight after one day of working out. It takes a lot of time and hard work so create a plan and be consistent. For example, one way to lose weight is to try to drink a lot of water daily. Water is beneficial for your health and has many positive effects including: increases energy, reduces appetite, boosts mood, strengthens hair and nails, and increases metabolism.
3. Smile More
- Your smile is a powerful tool and studies have shown that a simple smile can lead to actual happiness. Moreover, smiling can help reduce stress, and make you more approachable. Lastly, smiling numerous times a day tremendously affects our brains, and encourages positive-thinking.
"Let this coming year be better than all the others. Vow to do some of the things you have always wanted to do but could not find the time. Call up a forgotten friend. Drop an old grudge, and replace it with some pleasant memories. Vow not to make a promise you do not think you can keep. Walk tall, and smile more. You will look 10 years younger. Do not be afraid to say, I love you. Say it again. They are the sweetest words in the world" - Author Unknown
