Active and Engaging Elementary-Age Experiences

Creating Kites Teaches Symmetry and Surface Area

Mr. Egeler's classroom is festive with one-of-a kind cellophane kites. They hang in rows from the ceiling and wave as students walk below..

Seventh graders designed kites as part of unit on equilaterals. The resulting squares, rhombuses, trapezoids, acute triangles, and kites were painted, and demos scheduled on John Jay's Contest Field.  


Humanities Research Symposium on May 23

Find out what teens are thinking about at John Jay High School's 10th Annual Humanities Research Symposium on Tuesday, May 23, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.  This year's fifteen presentations range from feminism and neurodiversity to the EPA and American security post 9/11.
