Welcome to the 2017 Goose Pond Half Iron & Sprint Triathlons!  Please review the race schedule below. Also included below are some race reminders.  
 
RACE LOCATION - Goose Pond Colony Resort, 417 Ed Hembree Drive, Scottsboro, AL 35769 - Located on the banks of the Tennessee River's beautiful Lake Guntersville and nestled into the picturesque Cumberland Mountains, Goose Pond Colony awaits your arrival. Goose Pond  Colony is a public resort that will take your breath away. With two beautiful-18 hole championship golf courses, comfortable lakeside cottages, lodge, relaxing waterfront  campground (call for availability - 256-912-0075), full service marina, meeting facilities, The Docks Restaurant, swimming pool,  beach area and Lake Guntersville, we are all you need for a relaxing vacation or one-day outing.

Note: It is recommended all athletes preview courses prior to the event(s).  Bike & run courses will be marked Thursday, May 25th. Please drive the bike course & drive or ride the run course to know each thoroughly. 
 
We will be using the  LIVE RESULTS via RunSignUp.com  for the Goose Pond events. Your finish and splits times will be available virtually immediately to you, family & friends as times enter our scoring programs.   Please make sure you sign up for text /e-mail notifications here & share address with family and friends. 
 
Finishers medals will be handed out for Sprint & Half Iron races as triathletes finish.  Please see time schedule for awards ceremonies to be held at FINISH LINE.

Beverages and food will be available after the race. Rudy Project gear and other prize drawings will be made prior to and during awards ceremonies. Splits will be available on RESULT KIOSKS set up at finish line.  Go to:  www.EnduranceSportsManagement.com   for PDF results post-event. USAT ranking results will be sent within the 15-day USAT requirements.

9 AM -  Enjoy  fruit and snacks at swim pavilion - Please make arrangements to get award if leaving early. Awards may be available at later events, not mailed.

USAT Requires SWIM START VERIFICATION. Follow flagging to SWIM ENTRANCE & CROSS MATS. 
USAT rules require this procedure. Wetsuit use will be determined race morning per USAT rules. 
Wet Suits WILL BE ALLOWED 78 DEGREES & under. Expected temp 72-76 degrees - Actual temp posted Thursday evening on ESM & race information pages.

START INFORMATION - IN WATER START for ALL WAVES -
Swim caps provided must be worn. Keep all buoys to LEFT - follow flagging to transition after swim.  Relays: Relay members swap timing strap / chip at bike rack. Rack with other bikes & follow same rules / routes as individual racers.

Warning:  USAT has found many injuries / fatalities to be caused by failure to WARM UP prior to start. ALL ATHLETES are urged to WARM UP either on land or in the water prior to start. Early season Open Water Swims are notorious for a good SHOCK TO YOUR SYSTEM  - Please warm up prior to start! 

BIKE TRANSITION AND COURSE: FOLLOW RED CONE TOPPER SIGNS
Bike racks will be first come.  Transition opens 5 AM Sunday morning for racking.  All competitors will be going through the entire transition area. 
NO RIDING IN THE TRANSITION AREA. Bike will be mounted and dismounted at the transition exit. Six (6) bikes per rack. Both b ike courses are fairly flat & open to traffic - please proceed with caution. Please review attached map links and descriptions below.
 
NOTE: TRANSITION FLOW for 2017 - tr ansition flow will be Swim In / Run out & Bike Out / Bike In - this means you will enter transition from the swim & exit for run near swim area & bike exit & return will be at far end of parking lot -
Sprint cyclists will complete a simple out and back route - Ed Hembree -Right on Broad to turn-around before Bob Jones & return same route to bike dismount  - Stay to RIGHT & follow Police /volunteer directions
Half Iron cyclist will follow same beginning route - continue on Broad to downtown Scottsboro - quick turns as follows: Appletree LEFT - 1 block - Andrews LEFT - cross Willow to LEFT on Mary Hunt - RIGHT on Market - LEFT on Maple & LEFT onto Rt. 21 - Rt. 21/470 approx. 6 miles to LEFT on Rt.33 - Rt.33 about 3 miles to RIGHT on Rt. 32 ( this is bottle drop /exchange corner - get 24 oz. Deer Park Sport Top Water Bottle - Rt. 32 - 3 miles to LEFT onto Rt. 42 - Rt. 42 - 5 miles to LEFT onto Rt. 45 - CAUTION: note RR tracks here - Rt. 45 - 2 miles to turnaround - return same route. Bottle drop exchange at miles 18 & 38. S ee course markings prior to event. Please stay to your right ENTIRE COURSE unless passing. Course is open to traffic. 

RUN Courses -  The Sprint run is completely within the Colony.  Sprint racers will turn around at mile 1.55. Aid will be located at approx. .5 mi & 1.25 mi for four passings on the 5K. Sprint Course Link.
Half Iron runners - Your route is as follows - same route as 5K past aid #1 & #2 - at aid # 2, runners will complete 2 complete loops & then return final 1.25 mi to finish - Loop Description: continue into campground & do "lollie-pop" circle at far end - return back to aid #2 & turn right across short grass section to Bob Jones Rd - follow bob Jones approx. 1 mile to RIGHT on Goose Pond Drive - stay in CONES CLOSED right lane approx. 1 mile to turn-around  / timing point & return back same route to aid #2 to have number marked for lap 1 of 2 - lap 2 same - campground, back, Bob Jones, Goose Pond, turn-around, back to #2 & return to finish - DO NOT DO CAMPGROUND 3 X'S.  Aid also on Bob Jones, Goose Pond & at turn-around each passing - Gels & Base Performance available. 17 total aid passings over 13.1 miles. 13.1 Run Map Link - MapMyRun Link

USAT Info:  ALL USAT RULES APPLY.  See web link to common USAT violations.   Remember to stay to the far right unless you are passing someone. Helmets must be ANSI approved and buckled at ALL TIMES WHILE ON THE BIKE.

Upcoming Events
 
The Summer Solstice Tellico Sprint Triathlon has a long history of challenging athletes swimming in clear, cool Tellico Lake, in the bike climbs on Tellico Parkway / Davis Ferry and on the scenic run course allowing you to see & race your competition. 2017 will also include in door prizes from Rudy Project,  Xterra Wetsuits and other vendors. Shirts will be a vibrant color & finishers medals will be waiting as you complete your race!

Enjoy Summers longest days with scenic lake views on a 10K course or choose the Smoky Mountain Service Dog 5K on Saturday, June 17th. The runs take advantage of the longest days of the year with a 8 AM start. Both distances feature finishers medal, vibrant shirts, good food & fun! 5k benefits Smoky Mtn. Service Dog Foundation & has unique shirts and awards.
