The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP) Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) provides funding to assist with efforts to prevent or reduce crime and violence under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. The JAG Program is the primary provider of federal criminal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions. The BJA is also responsible for identifying strategies and purposes for funding, known as the Eligible Federally Authorized Purpose Areas.
