T
he Alabaster Offering provides funds for property and buildings around the world. While we understand the church consists of the people of God and not a building, buildings erected for the purpose of ministry help provide a sense of permanence, functionally enhance ministry efforts, and convey an attitude that the Church of the Nazarene intends to "put down roots." Alabaster funds help provide land for many Work & Witness projects, and the entire Alabaster Offering goes toward the purchase of land and construction of churches, schools, medical facilities, and homes for missionaries and national workers.
How Are Alabaster Offerings Received? The Alabaster Offering gets to the mission field via several avenues. The most widely used is the Alabaster Box. Individuals are challenged to regularly contribute the cost of items they desire but do not need. The boxes also serve as reminders to pray for those people who will benefit from Alabaster buildings. In September and February, the money is collected. Sometimes a "march offering" is received with individuals carrying their boxes to the front of the church and pouring the money into a large offering container. The way an offering is received is as varied as the world areas in which the Church of the Nazarene has a presence; however, it is always accompanied with a spirit of rejoicing. Many churches receive regular offerings throughout the year that are designated as Alabaster funds. (This is often a part of the Faith Promise plan for missions giving.) However, the semi-annual offerings should still be received, allowing opportunity for giving by those not participating in other ways. Alabaster should be well-publicized. All ages are encouraged to participate with leaders educating local churches as to the need for centers of holiness evangelism around the world.
Descriptions of some current Alabaster Projects can be found

The goal of NMI's Ministry Call is to educate, inform and guide those children and youth called into ministry get as much help in following through with those calls. Sunday School Discipleship International
|
"Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
As you are going,
THINK BIG:
Every relationship, every interaction, all inclusive.
And make disciples,
START SMALL:
You. Be one. Be a Christ-like disciple. Re-present Jesus.
Baptizing them, immersing them in Jesus,
GO DEEP:
Pray. Empty yourself. Sacrifice.

Children's Ministry Director
|
Please join me in celebrating Lisa Abbott as our NWIL District Children's Ministry Director!
Our Great God is our Preparer, Planner, Provider and One who delights in answering our prayers. He has done this very thing with the role of Children's Ministry Director for our district.
Lisa, alongside her husband Mark, with their three beautiful girls, Michaela, Marisa, and Mia currently serves at Rock Island Church of the Nazarene.
Lisa says she has served in children's ministries in the local church since she was a teenager. In addition to serving full-time in children's ministry for the past 17 years, Lisa previously worked with children in the public school system as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
Lisa is drawn to where children are, wants to engage with children, longs to know their hearts and their story, and most importantly wants children to experience Jesus' love for them.
Their family is very involved with life on our district, especially investing in their children through our quizzing program and kids' camp.
Lisa (and Mark) are being discipled, disciple others in their walk with Jesus, and intentionally disciple their children to follow Jesus.
I am so thankful for Lisa's background and heart for children, and for her faithful obedience to Him at this time on our district.
As for God, His way
(and timing) is perfect! (Psalm
18:30)
To God be the glory, great things He has done, and continues to do!

For generations, Nazarenes have supported the World Evangelism Fund. Working together, we accomplish so much as the Body of Christ. Become a part of missions work and partner with the Church of the Nazarene to make Christlike disciples in the nations. In the Funding the Mission plan, the World Evangelism Fund is the vehicle through which we deliver the message of hope - and your church drives that mission.

Where Theology and Practice Intersect
With Guest Speaker, Dr. William Willimon February 16-17, 2018
Olivet Nazarene University's School of Theology and Christian Ministry welcomes Dr. William Willimon to this year's Theological Leadership Conference. Dr. Willimon is Professor of the Practice of Christian Ministry at the Divinity School, Duke University. He is the author of 60 books and served for 8 years as Bishop of the North Alabama Conference of The United Methodist Church where he led 157,000 Methodists and 792 pastors. Move From Hero To Hero Maker
Every year, thousands of the world's church planting leaders come to Orlando to learn what's new and what's actually working RIGHT NOW in church planting. This year you can expect to learn the 5 essential practices of moving from hero (standing on the platform) to hero making (building a platform for others)...
Are you thinking that you can effectively build God's ministry by yourself? Well stop. And think again. Stop investing your time and resources on a method that's limited to addition. Maximize God's ministry by placing an emphasis on multiplying and developing other leaders.
Are you having a hard time discovering how you can maximize your discipleship efforts? Well here's the secret. The focus shouldn't be on your leadership. The focus should be on developing the leadership that God has put around you!
Are you committed to just creating disciples? Or are you committed to creating disciple multipliers? Commit to creating disciple multipliers. Your impact will reach far beyond your church or city.
Are you only asking God to use your gifts? Or are you also asking God to equip those that you're discipling? Your ministry will only thrive when you stop trying to fill slots. Instead use your time and resources to develop people's gifts and commission leaders to be sent out for ministry.
We're all guilty of it. We get more caught up with "Who shows up to my thing?" instead of "Who have I sent out to do God's thing?". If we're serious about building God's ministry, then we have to change our definition of success. We need to stop measuring attendance and start measuring how many of our disciples are advancing the kingdom.

BGS declares effective date for new Manual
The Board of General Superintendents declared December 1, 2017 as the effective date for the 2017-2021 Manual of the Church of the Nazarene.
In June 2017, the General Assembly commissioned the Manual Editing Committee to work on all resolutions that were adopted (or amended and adopted) by the Assembly. According to Manual par. 909, specific legislative language and updates (new or revised) are not deemed "official" until this committee's assignment has been completed, which was November 2017. Legislation affecting the Manual is now applicable.
A section of the General Assembly website,
ga2017.com/resolutions
, provided access to resolutions for General Assembly delegates and the general public prior to and during the 2017 General Assembly. This section is still available to anyone who wishes to access it, and no log-in is required.
The page contains folders for each of the original resolutions submitted to the General Assembly (available in English, French, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish). A Calendar of Resolutions was posted to this site in August 2017, which identifies the specific action (adopted, amended and adopted, rejected, or referred) taken for each resolution by the 2017 General Assembly. The resolutions are organized into separate folders by committees according to each resolution code.
