8th Annual Chemistry Symposium

AAHS students hosted the 8th Annual Chemistry Symposium on Wednesday, January 3 in the High School library. Students incorporated creativity, collaboration, and scientific understanding while completing the challenges showcased at the symposium.

QUEEN COMMITS TO COLGATE
Altoona Area High School football standout Jayvion Queen signed a National Letter-of-Intent to attend Colgate University as a member of the Raiders' football team and the Patriot Conference. Queen a 3 year letterman and 3 year starter for the Mt. Lions played Left Tackle on offensive and Defensive Tackle and End.

Queen earned the following recognition over the course of his high school career:
  • 2017 2nd Team All WPIAL BIG 5/6 Offensive Line
  • 2017 1st Team All Area - Altoona Mirror
  • 2017 Western Pa Coaches Association Scholar Athlete
  • 2016 2nd Team All WPIAL BIG 5/6 Offensive Line
  • 2016 1st Team All Area - Altoona Mirror

Calling all Super Heroes!

All Altoona families are invited to attend the first district-wide Community Partnership parent/family engagement event in February.

Representatives from area community organizations will be on-hand to share what services and activities they offer for students and families.

Talk with representatives from the Greater Altoona Career and Technical Center, Adult Education, Lily Pond, Begin With Us, COS Play it Forward, just to name a few.

There will be games, planned activities and of course, PRIZES!

Mark your calendar for Thursday, February 22, 6- 8 PM in the AAJHS Gymnasium.



Altoona Athletics Concert Series Begins ! s
Performing live at halftime of our boys basketball game vs Bishop McCort Wednesday Jan 17, 2018 with be local musician and Altoona Alum Rue Moyer. Rue is a former football player and performing arts member at Altoona Area High School.

On Friday, January 12, the Mt. Lions host cross-town rival Hollidaysburg. Half-time honorees will be AAHS alumni who are part of the new inductees of the Blair County Sports Hall of Fame; Vince Nedimyer, Curtis Miller, Jim Restauri, Tracey Biesecker, and members of the 1962 Altoona Mt. Lion football team.

Joseph F. Cohen Blanket Award
AAHS senior football player Tyler Petucci received the 2017 Joseph F. Cohen Blanket Award. Petucci is the 91st Mt. Lion football player to receive the blanket.

The award was created in 1926 by Joseph F. Cohen to recognize not only the top senior player but the team player who molded people around him, cared a lot about other players; and brought a total package of integrity, honesty, sportsmanship and success both on and off the field.

The blanket was presented by Brian Cohen and son Jaxson.
