In a special meeting of the Board of Directors on January 4, 2018, the NEMA-FON Board unanimously and enthusiastically voted to welcome Dr. Roger D. Mardis as its incoming President.
This is a new position for Friends of Nazareth.
Dr. Mardis' primary responsibilities will be partnership relationships, including, but not limited to, expanding FON's ability to reach deeper and further in its ministry with Nazareth Baptist School. He will help to expand the financial and numerical partnership base. Please join the Friends of Nazareth Board in welcoming Roger to our staff.
Roger embraces the vision of NEMA-FON to help Nazareth Baptist School (NBS) enrich and enlarge its capacity for ministry. NBS ministers daily in the hometown of Jesus to
Build the Rising Generations - Glorify Jesus Christ through Distinctive Education.
Originally from Florence, AL, Roger is married to Michelle Stephens of Tuscumbia, AL. They have been married for thirty-three years and have four adult children. Andrew (Caitlin) live in Columbia, SC; Zach resides in Birmingham, AL; Stephen (Audrey-Anne) also live in Birmingham. Mae Beth is a recent graduate of the University of Mobile and continues to live in Mobile.
Dr. Mardis has served over thirty years as a Senior Pastor with pastorates in Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina and Virginia. Most recently, as Founding Pastor of Agape Baptist Church, Scottsboro, AL. In addition to serving as a Pastor, he has served the Southern Baptist denomination at the local and State levels. Dr. Mardis obtained his MDiv and DMin from Mid America Baptist Theological Seminary. He has his undergraduate degree from the University of North Alabama. He is the author of three books:
The Expository Preaching and Teaching Ministry of Jerry Vines (2002);
Big Doors Swing on Small Hinges (2014): and
Sail On...Examining the Ships of the Bible (2016).
Roger's mission experience is broad and his heart for the world is BIG, especially Nazareth. He has been involved in mission outreach on four continents and in eleven countries. He has been a part of over thirty mission encounters, five of these were in Israel and two were at Nazareth Baptist School with Friends of Nazareth. His mission's role has been, and will continue to be, sharing the Gospel through relational, intentional and pastoral ministries.
