"Jesus said, 'Anyone who hears and obeys these teachings of mine is like a wise person who built a house on solid rock.'"  (Matthew 7:24)

This is graduation recognition Sunday at OSLC.  We are proud to share that we have eight different young people graduating from different levels of learning:  some high school, others college, while still others graduate schools.  We give thanks for them all!

As you and I grow in years, on what kind of foundation for our wisdom have we built?

It is a daily hope of mine that the answer to that question is Jesus Christ.  Yes, it's often true, "If you say 'Jesus' when asked a religious question, you'll probably be right!"  In this case, you'd be right!.

No matter what field of life your education leads you, it needs Jesus Christ as the founder of how you will put all that you've learned into practice.  Will the job you begin soon take in account the thoughts and feelings of others?  Will your task in life constantly respect all others even though you work for someone who is extremely competitive?  Can you see the common good that the work you're called to do will help enhance and improve this world?  Are you able to live up to what you say you will do to better humankind in some way?
True, there are lots and lots of people who are not spiritually fed and motivated - who are wealthy and "well-to-do" because of their years of hard work - but - are they happy?  Truly happy?

Without God, life is hollow.  It bears an emptiness that is cold and sad.  As they say, "It is lonely at the top."

Maybe that's why Jesus usually chose people from the bottom rung of the social ladder rather than the top.

No matter, trust in the Lord as you venture out each day for the rest of your lives.  Without God in your life, things eventually go flat.  I've seen it time and time again. With God, Luke 1:37 says, all things are possible.  Let God help led your new lives every day.  You will see things differently from many others, and, be prepared for that.  But as you do, remember:
...God loves you and so do we!

Pastor Jim

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

15 "If you love me, keep my commands.   16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate  to help you and be with you forever- 17 the Spirit of truth.  The world cannot accept him,  because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[a] in you.  18 I will not leave you as orphans;  I will come to you.  19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.   20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.  21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them."

John 14:15-21
