Why is Village Hall's Phone Ringing:

Can you help explain my water bill? Why am I getting a bill in January, when is it due, and how is it calculated?

I got a letter about a new trash cart  - and where can I find  more information online ?

How long will you still be picking up Christmas trees?

When is the skating rink going to open in Klode Park?

Ice Skating - The free, public Klode Park Skating Rink is officially open as of Sun., Jan. 7, 2018,  at Klode Park at N. Lake Dr and E. Belle Ave.

Snow and Ice Info

Village Snow Procedures:
Village crews clear all streets, starting with main thoroughfares, then secondary streets, then residential streets and alleys. Sidewalks that abut village-owned land, such as parks and government buildings, are also clear. At times an anti-icing agent is applied to streets prior to a snow event preventing ice from bonding to the pavement.

Resident Snow and Ice Removal:
All residents and business owners are responsible for snow and ice removal from public sidewalks within 24 hours of a snow event. Please clear all corners with crosswalks; handicap accessible ramps should be cleared out side enough to accommodate a wheel chair.

Fire hydrants should be shoveled out 3 feet to allow access in the case of a fire. Residents whose property has an adjacent bus stop with concrete are requested to keep that area clear and free of ice to allow for bus patrons to safely get on and off the buses.

For more information please see the Village website at

Recycling Information
January is Radon Action Month! Indoor radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), radon-induced lung cancer kills 21,000 Americans every year.  Smoking combined with radon exposure poses additional lifetime risks of getting lung cancer.  If you want to start the year off healthy, do it from the ground up and test your home for radon. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is present in the ground and can enter homes through their foundations. It forms naturally from the decay of radioactive elements which are found at different levels in soil and rock around the base and under the home. That is why radon levels vary from home to home, and the only way to know if you have high levels is to test your own home. Radon levels are usually highest in the basement and levels peak in the winter months when windows and doors that would otherwise help to vent the gas are closed. To assess the magnitude of the problem in your home, it is therefore best to test in the winter months.

The health department has radon kits available for $6.00 at the Shorewood and Brown Deer offices. If you have questions about radon, call us at 414-371-2980 or visit the following websites:
