Register now to re-audition for the nations 6th oldest youth symphony! This is your chance to show conductors the results of your hard work all season long.
Register and audition to make more music next year, and challenge yourself to advance even further at SDYS!
Registration Fee Increase
As a reminder, the registration fee increases from $40 to $50
tomorrow, May 5.
Current students, click on the My SDYS Portal to register now through the Parent Portal and save $10 before tomorrow!
Audition Dates
Auditions will be held in early to mid June. All currently enrolled musicians--
including marching band students--must audition in June in order to be enrolled in the 17-18 season.
The deadline to register is Monday, May 22 at 12 NOON.
Audition assignments will be emailed to families on Friday, May 26.
If you are traveling in the summer, we recommend you plan your trip for after the audition.

Adjusted Rehearsal Schedule
This Saturday, May 6, we will host our annual Encore! fundraising event here in Casa del Prado. The event will take place from 5 pm to 9 pm, and will conflict with some of our regular rehearsal times.
Below is the adjusted rehearsal schedule. Please note, these are start times for rehearsals. All students must be present 15 minutes before rehearsal begins to be ready and warmed up.

Wind Symphony: 8:45am - 10:35 am
Sinfonia: 10:45am - 12:35 pm Concert Orchestra: 12:40pm - 2:30pm

Senior Send-Off
Save the Date
SDYS will honor graduating seniors at all levels (Inspiration, Showcase, and Ovation) at a Senior Send-Off on Saturday, May 13 from 7:30PM-8:30PM. Families/students must RSVP, in advance, to the email sent out earlier this week. The cost to attend is free!

Audition Edition
Showcase and
Inspiration musicians, join us for the audition edition of Beyond the Staff on
Thursday, May 11. At this workshop, you will see live demonstrations of an actual SDYS audition performed by some of our students! Showcase conductor, Juan Palacios, will lead the audition process and be able to answer any questions you may have.

Congratulations to Gabriella Grasso for her acceptance into the summer Trumpet
Workshop with the Oberlin College and Conservatory. The 10-day session offers daily master classes, private lessons, performance classes, and recitals. This summer Gabriella will study with Oberlin College and Conservatory's Associate Professor of Trumpet Roy Poper. Kudos to Gabriella!
Congratulations to Christine Kim who has been accepted to the Music Teachers' Association of California Young Artist Guild Program. As an accepted student Christine will be granted membership in the Guild for five years. During this five-year tenure, she will be offered semi-professional paid performance opportunities through MTAC branch-sponsored concerts. Christine's first upcoming performance is at the State MTAC Convention YAG recital on June 30. Kudos to Christine!
Congratulations to Morgan Leach on her acceptance into the Summer String Academy at the Jacobs School of Music. As a Summer String Academy student, Morgan will participate in two private lessons weekly, chamber music, master classes, and performances. This summer intensive offers students a varied program under the direction of the outstanding faculty at one of the nation's top music schools. Kudos to Morgan!
Kudos to Nao Nadhara for his appointment as the principal cellist of the California Music Educators Association Middle school honor Orchestra! Nao performed in concert this past Saturday at the Shiley Theatre at the University of San Diego. Kudos to Nao!

The Walden School
The Walden School Young Musicians Program provides a creative summer experience for musically inclined students ages 9 to 18. Part school, part camp, and part festival, the program convenes each summer for five weeks in Dublin, NH. Through rigorous and innovative daily instruction, students hone their musical and creative skills within a supportive community of like-minded peers and mentors.

2017 Rock n' Roll Camp for Girls
Girls Rock Camps help girls build self-esteem and find their voices through unique programming that combines music education and performance; empowerment and social justice workshops; positive role models, and collaboration and leadership skill building.

Fest is an intense, informative, and exploratory 5-day double
bass workshop, presented by the SDSU Community Music School, that will take place

Fest aims to energize and unite the
bass community in
San
Diego, and will include internationally renowned bassists and educators to provide personal one-on-one and group instruction to students of all levels and all ages. Program will include private lessons, group technique classes, solo master classes, jazz master classes and technique,
bass orchestra, recitals, and more! Guest clinicians may include Mark Dresser, Andrés Martín, PJ Cinque, Justin Grinnell, Jeremy Kurtz-Harris, Sayuri Yamamoto, Jory Herman, and more.
Cost: $500
Early Bird Discount: Register and pay by March 31, 2017 to receive a 10% discount.

Eastern U.S. Music Camp
The Eastern U.S. Music Camp, conducted on the beautiful Colgate University campus in central New York State is designed to provide opportunities and enrichment in all areas of music for youth aged 10-18. Each student is able to design their own schedule, participate in several groups and on more than one instrument and/or voice, all for one fee. Supervised sports, recreational and social activities are also an integral part of the summer. The total experience is rewarding musically and socially.
