The Dust of Kandahar, an unusual
on-the-ground account of a "diplomat among warriors". Jonathan Addleton is an author, career diplomat, former U.S. Ambassador to Mongolia, and recipient of numerous awards, from the U.S. Army Outstanding Civilian Service medal to the U.S. Foreign Service Christian Herter award for intellectual courage and constructive dissent.

Update From The Office
At the end of April, we bid a
fond farewell to Vieno Carter, former Northeastern Coop, who stayed on to manage this year's
Academic WorldQuest competition, with her trademark professionalism, smarts, enthusiasm, and humor.
Also in April, we
welcomed Jeff LeClair to the WorldBoston board. A Boston-area native, Jeff is Senior Vice President, Marketing, at Direxion Investments.
This month, it's a pleasure to note the
promotion of Sarah Sibley to Director of Citizen Diplomacy Programs. Sarah oversees all our citizen diplomacy programs, including the IVLP. (Ask her if you need help hosting your group!) This fall, she will lead WorldBoston's participation in the high-level
YLAI program, placing Latin American and Caribbean entrepreneurs in fellowships around Boston. Congratulations, Sarah!

Germany: Security in the Digital Age
May 24-27
An international visitor from Germany will be learning about the legal framework for privacy protections in the U.S at both the federal and state levels; examining how government, law enforcement & the private sector cooperate and share information to prevent cybersecurity crimes.

The International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) is the U.S. Department of State's premier professional exchange program and WorldBoston's main citizen diplomacy partner. Launched in 1940, the IVLP is a professional exchange program that seeks to build mutual understanding between the U.S. and other nations through carefully designed short-term visits to the U.S. for current and emerging foreign leaders. These visits reflect the International Visitors' professional interests and support the foreign policy goals of the United States.
The U.S. Department of State's bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs administers the IVLP. In doing so, the bureau enters cooperative agreements with National Program Agencies, a group of private, not-for-profit organizations based in Washington, D.C., that design and implement national IVLP itineraries. In addition to the National Program Agencies, the IVLP relies on the commitment and skills of local community organizations across the U.S., known as Centers for International Visitors (CIVs). Under the professional association of Global Ties U.S., local CIV members develop professional programs, arrange cultural activities, and provide home hospitality for international visitors.
WorldBoston is part of the Global Ties Network of more than 90 CIVs in 45 states.
