Comments are needed to defend San Juan Islands National Monument!

Comments to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke are needed in support of the San Juan Islands National Monument (SJINM). President Trump, responding to congressional calls to rescind national monument designations, has ordered Interior Secretary Zinke to review monuments designated in the last 20 years. Although the San Juan Islands National Monument was removed from the "initial" list of monuments Zinke is reviewing, actions taken to diminish protection on those monuments may set a precedent that would threaten the permanence of protection for our monument

You can comment specifically on the SJINM, on national monuments in general, on other specific national monuments, and/or on the Antiquities Act.

Please submit comments before 9pm PDT on Thursday, May 25th.  A strong showing of support for monuments in general may set the tone for future reviews.

How to Comment
Personal, substantive comments are the most impactful.  Submit your comment on this site . All comments to this site will be passed on to Interior and tracked by advocates to make sure they are heard.  To have the greatest impact, you should address the issues in the  request for comment  - read this  great guidance for writing a powerful comment . You can always start brief and write more in later comments. No need to stop at just one!

Interior's official comment site allows you to upload any documents you'd like the Secretary to consider - such as scientific or cultural reports, perspectives like this report from Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, or these economic analyses (click on "show all research" at the bottom).
